whats the point of the silent K?

A random thought of there ever was one...

Know,Knee,knew,Knock all of those have a silent K what's the point??? I don't understand the use?
 
heh I get ya, I guess so it can differentiate words like know and now
 
^^Yeah, that's what I was gonna say too. English is a stupid language with many rules for its usage that simply don't make any logical sense. This is precisely why I always got A's in foreign languages (which are much easier to learn and understand) and B's or C's in English. ;)
 
I know that, in old English, the 'k' was actually pronounced, but that they later gave it up because the pronunciation came to be considered too harsh :mello:
