I feel quite sad and depressed at the state of music lately. I feel like every artist I was really bothered about has died. At first it was Aaliyah with her tragic death in a plane crash in 2001 aged just 22, she died at the time when I'd began to take notice of her music and began to really like her, then it was Lisa Lopes from TLC who died in a plane crash just a few months after Aaliyah's death. Next it was James Brown who thankfully I managed to see live in concert just before he died then Michael Jackson.

I feel the only one of my favourite artists who is still alive today is Stevie Wonder who has managed to outlive them all. I have no idea what I'll do all my favourite artists are gone. I honestly feel like there's no one left and I find it so sad. Why did all my favourite artists have to die? When people ask who I like in music I say no one really as everyone I ever cared about or really loved musically has died. It's a strange feeling and depressing knowing I won't ever hear any new songs or videos from some of them who have died. I also feel like as time goes by there are fewer and fewer people who know who I mean when I mention Aaliyah or Left-Eye.

First of all hugs to you, :better:
but also, why when people ask you who your fav artists are do you feel you cant say their names? You still love and appreciate them and their talents. The reason you loved their music isnt any different now that they are no longer alive on this planet amongst us.
Be proud to say who your fav artists are! :clapping:
Anyway as I said, hugs to you. I know it's not easy.

i'm so sorry to hear that jenny it is sad alot of great artists has passed, marvin gaye, mj, james brown, same cooke, jackie wilson some of my favorites but look b the great thing is that they left a legacy of great music which makes them immoratal b/c that's what they feel like they would here for to make people happy with their entertainment i mean, i mean songs are called classics for a reason it, music they never seemed outdated just great quality that you can enjoy no matter how old you get or how many years still sounds great,

I empathize with you 100%. My favorite artists of all time have either passed away or are much too old to do any sort of major touring and what not..It can be very depressing, but just know that you are not alone and I think that a lot of people feel this way.

Just keep listening to your favorite artists, let their music fill you with inspiration and keep celebrating their legacy! :)

I guess I'm lucky in the sense that I really like Paul Weller. He is touring at the moment and I hope to see him again live when he performs nr me in Brighton East Sussex this November. Ironically Paul Weller is only 3 months older than MJ :-(

I feel similar, I only have Al Green and Stevie Wonder left.

If R Kelly turned things round and quit all this 'clubbin' crap and gets to the soul thats in him, then maybe there is still something left otherwise I don't know, all the artists of today are at least 3-5 levels lower.

my fav singer/artist is william shakespear
also know as the guy who write romio/juiet play
he died like over 200 years ago
since michael died music has lost meaning to me
if my fav singer dies i just forget them and find myself a new fav singer
i already forget who lady gaga is? who madonna was
who cher was who jusin beaver is? or bryan adams or julio ingleis.jr was
and this singers are still alive doing their own music
but music has lost all meaning to me and all i have left is michael jackson music

At least I'm not the only one feeling this way, I do continue to listen to all their music but it's not the same knowing I'll never hear any new material. But as one of you pointed out, it's what the artists would have wanted, that's the whole reason why they created their music in the first place, to entertain people for years to come.

Well, with Michael's case there is tons of music he's created that haven't been heard by anyone yet, we will be getting new music for by him for many years to come. Sadly..he's not here to release it himself or create any more..but he's bound his soul to his music, so his music will forever hold the Magic

I just keep listening to them, watch their videos and concert footage and go buy the new stuff whenever it is released.

I also remember their birth date and date of death each year and commemorate it by listening to their music and watching their videos.

I'm into Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan (SRV) and Michael Jackson at the moment. It was the 20th anniversary of SRV's death a couple of weeks ago when I was at a blues gig - i cried for the best part of the two-hour set! I just enjoy their music and am thankful that they had the opportunity to share their talent. So many gifted people don't get this opportunity xx

I am in that group too...
I know very well how does it feel
I have no more idols as MJ was... Becoz I am not a teenager anymore ans THERE IS NO IDOL like him now, and it will not be another idol like him in MANY years...

Even old people in the 80s became fan of Michael Jackson.

But I have one of my teen biggest idols still alive.

With Michael Jackson: all my teen idols (but one, he is still alive), my childhood heros, my youth greatest moments died with him.

First it was Freddie Mercury.

Then and probably the biggest becoz I am a Michael Jackson fan since I was 8... it was Michael...

I really , I mean really feel this new world is not my world.

It is very sad I keep on watching an dlistening all my youth fav TV show and music, it is just an example my world is gone forever.

You the fan, keep them alive through listening to their music, watching their concerts etc. and spreading their messages :D

Ohhh my goodness now thats a good question... now you see I get so shocked when some of the good artists passed away. Like 1st then Aaliyah, Left Eye, James Brown, & also Michael Jackson (aka my idol...)-also my other idols as well! when I try to listen to thier music it makes me feel when I fall in love with some of my artists all over agian for time to time being. And thats what it took me form a long ride to the very begaining to the end of the era.

I agree with each and Evey word you wrote......I am not young anymore either...and Michael WAS IT for me. Being a fan for more than 3 decades I have lost the last great love that took me from my childhood to my adult years. When Michael passed away...I couldn't hear the music anymore. I always say ..nope thats it for me....I will NEVER love another singer....and ya know what??? ...I don't. :boohoo:.....Michael was more than just an entertainer to me..he seen me throught SOOOO many rough times in my childhood....he saw me through so many rough times in my adult hood. It gets lonley inside my heart without Michael...and he is not here to fix that. There are no words to describe the loss of Michael..

There are so many great artists and bands, past and present, dead AND alive. If you feel like you're running out then you just need to open your mind up to different genres and eras.

^ I think the OP is not saying they are running out, they are saying that all of their favourite artists have died, Like in my case my all time favourites have both died (Michael and Kurt Cobain), but I still listen to great bands out there, There will never be anyone better than Michael to me (or Kurt specifically in the heavy rock genre) I guess it varies for people :)

This is something I have thought about from time to time. But you can't stop life from happening. Just because they are no longer here with us, doesn't mean we can't enjoy their music just the same as we would when they were alive.

When you're listening to their music, does it feel like you're in a different world and you kind of forget they are gone? That's how I feel sometimes when I listen to Michael's music or hear music from those who have passed. When I hear their music it feels as if they are still here, I just completely forget. That's why I believe that artists live through their music, especially Michael Jackson. Artists such as Michael, James Brown, Stevie Wonder (God bless him) etc. put so much of their heart and soul into their music and there is no problem with appreciating that after they are gone. Their music will always be there. We have to appreciate what they left here with us, even though there may not be any new material. Be grateful that we've ever even had them in the first place. :)

It's a hard reality to face, but that's life. If we want these artists who have passed on to continue to grow in their legacies, we are the ones who have to keep them growing. We can't give up on them only because they aren't here with us anymore. They need us (the fans) now more than they ever did in their careers. Even though they have died, doesn't mean you have to completely forget about them and find a new artist. Everybody dies at some point or another but I'm not going to give up on them. I want my children to know real music, whether the artist is dead or alive.

Well, you can still say the names of your favorite artists who are dead when people ask you who your favorites are. That's a pretty common thing.

Start digging for other types of music besides what is popular. There is alot of great music out there today and alot of great genres. Its not popular though but it does exist.
