Are You Hateful..?

Hate is a mighty strong word to us humans. For those who carry this lethal mental venom with them, it signifies a very charged emotional state that pollutes your spirit and seeps into all of the relationships that surround you. Anyone who has found themselves wrapped up in the arms of hate knows very well how damaging and mind-consuming it can be. Generally speaking, there are actually two kinds of hate. At the risk of grossly oversimplifying, there is hate that is turned outward, and there is hate that is turned inward. Either one of these will eat you up, so if you find yourself living with hate on your mind and in your heart, perhaps today is a good day to do some wellness housecleaning.

Hate turned outward is both dangerous and ugly. It is the basis for all types of crimes and destructive behaviors, and will definitely get you into trouble if not addressed. Hate turned inward can crush one’s spirit and damage one’s health. Anyway, my message today is directed at prompting you to think about this very strong and destructive human emotion. Does hate have a place in your life? Do you harbor any feelings of hate toward yourself or anyone else? If you do, I implore you to address this negative feeling before it manifests itself into something dangerous or destructive. Hate, when left alone, will drain your spirit and darken your days. So if this topic strikes a little too close to home for you, make today the day you begin addressing this darkness and start to let the sunshine in again!

Wishing You Great Health,
Dr. John H. Sklare

Hi Sue....I am into the midst of a Psych Nursing clinical, and I wrote about this. Not for me, for my patients. I think that most of the self-destructive habits that we ALL have at one point or another is just a shade of self-hate. Smoke, knowing full well the consequences of it? Self-hate...not as bad as a psych patient, but it's there. Drink, knowing what THAT will do to you? Just a little self-hate going on. Continue to be overweight, knowing full well the consequences of THAT?? Yep, self-hate. Eat sugar or sugary foods, even though you are a Type I (insulin dependent) diabetic?? SELF-HATE.

This goes without saying those patients who drive sewing needles so far into their back they require neurosurgery. Or the ones that come in hopped up on heroin or some other controlled substance. It is ALL self-hate. Those are the patients I am dealing with right now. However, for the rest of us "normal" people (which is a very relative term if you ask me!) IF you TRULY loved yourself, you'd stay clean, you'd try to lose weight, AND you would STOP SMOKING. You'd NEVER get involved in drugs either.

AND. You NEED to forgive your parents or anyone else in your family for past transgressions. DO IT NOW, before it is too late. Give your flowers to them while they are alive, instead of waiting to strew them at their cemetary plot. Don't do it for them, DO IT FOR YOU..

Here's a song I love that talks about forgiving your parents...especially your Dad...

Golly Gee Wilickers Linda...I couldn't have said it better my self...Many don't realise how much they can learn from the elderly/parents, I am very close with my elderly Mom & Dad...although their health is not the best. I can honestly say I will never have any regrets and continue to cherish every moment...

It's so true Sue. Life is too short to hate either your parents or someone else in your family forever....and every time I hear that song, I cry...my heart aches. You see, we went through some tough times in our family not too long ago...and I am glad it is over. And that our family came out of it stronger for it.

Interesting topic.

I don't harbour hate in an outwards fashion against anyone. There are times when I am frustrated with situations but rarely the individuals.

I do often however harbour self-hate, or rather self loathing. and you're right it is destructive. I have often told myself that I'm not worthy of anyone, not just as a potential partner, but as a friend to others.

I used to use the word hate alot when I was younger like 12-16. People that I didn't like for some reason(usually no reason at all) I used to hate. I focusd so much on them that I hated the person even more.

Thank god Im not like that anymore, In fact i've learned to view things with an open mind and usually I get along with almost everyone, but people that I don't like for some reason, I simply ignore them and don't use my energy focusing on them.

There is ONE person I hate though!!! And I mean really HATE on. But I'm sure people will get offended and so on.. so i'll just leave it.
