Sorry if this has been covered. I've used the search option and can't come up with anything. Was Michael Jackson not signed to any major label at the time of his death?
I know he parted way with with Two Seas, but what happened after that? Was he re-signed with Sony?
Thanks so much for your help.

no he had no label. his contract with sony ran out in 2003.

King of pop Album and Thriller 25 was Sony
plus his official website and all promotion
of the TII concerts was done through SONY website
so apparently he had some kind of contract with them for
these things .. They were working together

weren't these albums released just to fulfill his contractual obligation to them?

wow. i can't believe he was without label. kind of sad. anyways, thanks for the info.

That could be but they had some kind of contract for TII
as they were the ones that released the Press confernece
and Promotion videos for MJs TII concerts _ and they did
all advertising of TII on the MJ?Sony website and Sony Youtube

I belive differences were solved when they FIRED Tommy Mattola

Its possible Michael would have gone with a different Label
for his new material _ but he was still working with Sony on
other things _ and they did a exceelent Job promoting his
recent albums and his TII concert ...

I dont believe they were ememy's as some would like you to belive.
they had contractual differences in the past and solved them ..

some people keep brining up Tommy mattola
he is no longer involved or part of Sony ..
They fired him back when MJ brought to light his
dirty deeds ...

Mickie(qbee), do you think that maybe the this is it project could be the last one with sony?

That's true. All the TII stuff was done thru SOny. Michael must have had some kind of contract with them

no. his 1991 contract with sony ended in 2003 with the release of the number ones album. after mottola was sacked in 02 there were reports that mj would re sign with them at some point. as he was close to the bosses in japan he worked with them on TUC for example and there was a decent realtionship going on, it suited both their intrests.but no new contract was signed.most think he wuld ahve resigned with them eventually

it was in sonys intrests to help promote the concerts vertually all the songs he was gonna sing came from sony releases. so big money for them. they had the rights re the songs so they were gonna use those songs to make money its not like they had a deal so to speak they just had the rights interms of putting the songs out there

TII had nothing to do with sony they were only "involved" because of the rights they had over the songs interms of putting them out on the sony label

i think it was all a good marketing ...if you know what i mean ;)

Ended in 2003.

Sony and Michael worked together on the smaller releases like The Ultimate Collection, King Of Pop, Thriller 25th, The Essential. Michael had started to become good friends with Sony again. Some say because Tommy Mottola was fired.
