Video: Janet Jackson Has Vocal Malfunction

As much as we us some Janet Jackson, there’s no denying her love for backing tracks. ‘Allowed’ by most because of her high-octane routines, the youngest of the Jackson clan was left red faced recently after her career long practice came back to bite her in her derriere.

For when performing ‘That’s The Way Love Goes’ on the New Jersey stop of her ‘Number Ones: Up, Close, & Personal Tour’, the whole shabang was thrown off when the 45 year old’s pre-recorded vocal failed to kick in on cue. The result? See for yourself after the jump…

Great to see Ms. Jackson handle the situation like the seasoned pro she is. That said, someone’s clearly getting fired!

For real, though, lipping slower numbers too? Not the business. Janet can actually hold her own vocally (she’s no powerhouse, but her control is solid). It’s high time she let the masses (and herself) know it. For, if a chart comeback is on the agenda, today’s audience aren’t here for wholly lip-synced performances (unless, of course, you’re Britney Spears).

I'm not really a fan of Janet's music. But I saw her on the Velvet Rope Tour in 1998, and she sang live brilliantly. I don't understand why she feels the need to lip-sync.

Like someone said it happens. No big deal!! By now her fans know she can sing. Enough already with finding fault with things that happens. If you are using a mike, you can bet that in one of the performances there will be a malfunction. If you are using video screens, you can bet that one night something will go wrong. If you are using costumes, you can bet that one night someone's garment will fall off, something with come undone, etc. Everyone is a critic.

Janet has A LOT of full choreography songs, from beginning to end on this tour, playback is expected, at least it's not straight up lip-syncing, she actually uses vocals from rehearsals. Before That's The Way Love Goes, she will have done the breakdowns and full choreography to Doesn't Really Matter, All For You, Escapade and a few more. If you expect her to sing live after that, well I don't know what else to say.
The same thing has happened to Michael in the past and it wasn't seen as embarrassing, but for Janet it is? Like others have said these things happen, if Madonna was doing the same type of choreography Janet was doing no doubt about it she'd be lip-syncing so you can't really compare the 2.

Michael has died and now the next target is Janet. I will be seeing her soon on this tour and i could care less if she lips her songs. She has a right to do so. She sang them on the album and has a dance that demands high attention of her body. If she wants to use a backing track who cares. She sang it once she can do it again. Just like her big brother! Get over it people (the bloggers) Just because Michael is gone doesn't mean you have to move to another in his family and victimize them like you did Michael. She does her work and i understand you have to do yours but in the future you must remember that a dance takes alot out of you. So much you haven't the breath to sing. I wish only once a reporter tried to sing and dance like Michael and Janet to see why they used the backing track. See why they used it more then they did singing live. People need to think about the dance rather then the backing or lip-syncing going on.
