May 9 - Victory Day in Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, national holiday which remembers the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II and honors 20 million Soviets who died in the war.

Every 9 May, those countries celebrates the victory over Nazi Germany, while remembering those who fell in order to achieve it.
9 May was chosen, since in the night from 8th to 9th 1945the German military surrendered to the Soviet Union and its Allies in Berlin (Karlshorst), for people in Russia this happened on the 9th (time change).
:salut:

Right now we have the salute, I can see it from my window...

Please, say a prayer for those who gave their life to stop that horror.

Thank you.

...*sigh*...

during the bombardment of Piraeus my mother's grandmother was killed (along with thousand other people)

and many people in Piraeus and Athens died of hunger, and my grandmother's sister among them
