The West End production of MICHAEL JACKSON musical THRILLER - LIVE is to close after four years on stage.

The show, based on the music of the late superstar and his group The Jackson 5, opened at London's Lyric Theater in January 2009, just months before the singer's death in June that year (09).

Theater bosses have now decided to bring the curtain down on the production, according to Britain's Daily Mail newspaper, and a new show will take up residence at the venue from 3 July (13).

Thriller - Live toured the U.K. before moving to the West End, while it has also been performed across Europe, as well as in China, Singapore, South Africa and Japan. A Brazilian production opened last month (Feb13).

A spokesman for Thriller – Live has denied the Daily Mail’s story that the Michael Jackson-inspired show is to close in the West End.

Baz Bamigboye reported today that it would be replaced in June by the family show We’re Going On A Bear Hunt.

However, the spokesman told BWW:UK today that there was “absolutely no truth whatsoever in the story”.

Although We’re Going On A Bear Hunt will be running at the Lyric Theatre over the summer, it will be running during the daytime as a bonus over the summer holidays.

The spokesman also revealed that Thriller – Live will be announcing a new booking period imminently.

Thriller Live, a spectacular concert show that celebrates the music of the world’s greatest entertainer and undisputed King of Pop, Michael and the Jackson 5, moonwalked into the West End in January 2009 after three acclaimed UK tours. It is currently booking at the Lyric Theatre to Sunday September 15, 2013. Several world tours have seen the show play to acclaim in 32 countries, including Germany, Italy, Poland, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Singapore, South Africa, China, Sweden, Finland and Norway.

That's a shame. Never saw Thriller Live myself but was always good seeing MJ's picture hanging over the venue while walking down Shaftesbury Avenue!

Has Daily Mail ever published ANYTHING that's true? Newspapers should be closed for this kind if BS. I wish there was a kind of license that the media would be oblidged to get and maintain that wouldn't allow them to stoop below certain standards.

What is going on? Maybe we should put all threads from tabloids in the tabloid section until the story can be confirmed.

At one point we were able to do that, but the line has become so blurred now between tabloid and real journalism. This story is actually from ABC channel 10 News. Even major news sites copy and paste tabloid articles that are not confirmed. Seems No one confirms stories anymore. Especially when it comes to the entertainment business. We all just have to use discernment now when judging if something is tabloid or true ..
