What kind of list is this? Greatest artists of all time where, globaly, only on the USA, where? Is this list official because we have seen all lind of lists flying around?

soundscan is the music tracking device started in 1991 so these are the highest selling artists in the U.S. from 1991 to 2011 . this was updated last week

Michael´s HIStory and Dangerous album (both more than 7 million albums in the USA)????
But Thriller is the 91st?

ridiculous.

USA treated him like shit, BOTDF is a prime example. We all know how good the real stats are.

His total position on the list is questionable, seriously questionable, but the position of Thriller must be incorrect have you seen some of the non albums that supposedly sold more, what a joke.

I'm sorry but there is no way that top 5, even including the beatles have sold more than twice as much as Michael Jackson, the idea is rediculous. Trust your instincts, something isn't right here.

Michael and Madonna should be much higher. I'm sure others as well. That list is seriously suspect.

actually this is RIGHT list, people keep in mind that these are the sales from 91' in U.S, NOT WORLDWIDE. keep also in mind that these are CERTIFIED sales, so mj's dangerous album could have sold 7 million and history 7 too, but it's not certified, therfore it's not inside top 100 albums. if all michael albums would be certified (#'s 1,essential,dangeorus,history, blood on the dance flloor, invincible and so on). he would at least be inside the top 10, probably 9. and in a few years (3-4)with all the upcoming albums and if they certified all his albums, he could easily CLIMB up to 6. it's really hard to get in side the top 5 though, since there is a 7 + million gap and as we all know albums sales are not selling as they used to... but who knows what can happen in the future...

If MJ has sold - 15) Michael Jackson 32,722,000 albums, it must mean that at least Dangerous and HIStory are CERTIFIED, as well as Thiller that is on 91....

Dangerous and HIStory were officially CERTIFIED a few (many) years ago.... with 7 platinum status.
Those 32 mill. albums of the list are certified so albums (like Dangerous and HIStory) should have been on the list because they have to be included in that amount of sold albums.

Then its confusing and unfair or misleading or twisting facts.

Compare these lists to the international ones and you see the difference... Michael was an international superstar and would definately be in the top 10 atleast for every international list.. In USA, MJ was treated like shit and there is definately some conspiracy behind these lists.

This is from 1991 till now? Is there a list that shows before 1991? I mean I read Joe Vogel's book and Thriller alone sold 110 million worldwide. Best selling album in the world for the last 30 years. I guess I want to see a list where Michael stands compared to everyone else in total sales. I don't even know if that exists.

AS you said they were certified many years ago, which means the album has still being selling without being certificated, a clear example is #1's (it's 3x plat.) when it had really sold +4,600,000 copies...a lot of mj's albums are under certified ...

This is a dumb question but can his albums get certified? Or certified the right number. I don't get why it wouldn't be correct in the first place. I am sorry I don't know how it works.

they can get the right number certified if your company are willing to. To get your album certified, the company needs buy the certification, which cost money, not much, but still...that's why many companies didn't./don't certified their artist's albums
ex. motown , none of their artists were certified...ex. stevie wonder's "songs in the key of life" was #1 Many weeks is us....and have probably sold many millions world wide, yet officially he hasn't sold any...when people want to get Motown album sales, they can only estimate (based on ow many weeks stayed in top200,how much albums were selling at the time, etc) ...it's quite sad though.
now let's say michael jackson's dangerous sold 7millions from 91-93...these albums were certified...meaning he officially has sold this amount of copies and the company made sure everyone know how successful his/her artist, like "this is artist, look how much he is selling", type of thing
BUT DANGEROUS still sold during 94' ,95',and so on .Let's say dangerous sold 1million from 94-09, THESE SALES ARE THE ones that have not being certified...therefore dangerous as well as many mj's albums (pre-91 too ex.off the wall and bad, thriller had been updated)
now in 09' for obvious and sad reasons mj sold millions and millions of albums (around 8)and these sales were counted towards the soundscan sales, since every week they were reporting how much mj sold, and at the end of the year the company made offical mj sold 8 and like 30 mill worldwide
i wish i could help you more too but i'm not an expert

It is sad. Thanks for your help. You do know a lot. I don't know any of these things. To me Michael is one of the best selling artists ever. He is the best to me.

But this also begs the question, is MJ the only artist who's not certified? Or does this apply to every artist on the list?
