Michael Jackson rebelled against his father early in his solo career and made harsh judgements about him. The press never stopped repeating them, long after Michael's own anger had passed.

When Michael tried to say good things about his father, reporters wouldn't listen. Outtakes from the Martin Bashir program show Michael starting to say positive things, only to be cut off and "corrected" by Bashir.

Fortunately, in 2001, Michael had a chance to speak.

It can be said for sure that Michael Jackson would not have died at that night if Joseph Jackson (who realized the manipulation of his son by AEG Live) managed to intervene and cancel those shows.

But AEG Live, knowing that, cut Joseph off from any form of communication with Michael Jackson because AEG Live wanted those shows to go on because the shows would bring huge profits to the company.

It is telling that whenever Joseph Jackson, during those months of the rehearsals in 2009, tried to phone his son (in order to advise him against those shows and cancel them), AEG Live did not pass the line to Michael Jackson.

Also, since mid-late 90s, Michael Jackson was getting closer to his father, and one clear example was when he called him to come to South Africa in 1997 when he was performing there.

Especially when Michael Jackson became a parent, it was then when he started to understand better his father.

He also wanted from Joseph Jackson to be with him during the days of the trial in 2004-2005.

Michael Jackson’s anger (or even hate) as an adult towards his father Joseph has been an exaggerated story by media and press.

I think Joseph Jackson in the beggining was a very mean and hard man. But as Michael said he was also a genious. I don´t agree parents should beat their kids (my parents never beat me and I think I´m not a bad person), and as Marlon said once too, there are other ways to discipline the kids. But, I think with time, their relationship became better and I think Joseph softened a little bit. I don´t know if he regreted some of his choices, but indeed in fact he changed a bit.
