The Urban Daily website has chosen their ten favourite Michael songs, ranging from boyhood through his career up to the ‘Invincible,’ album.

See if you agree!

Michael Jackson spent the majority of his life entertaining audiences with his amazing voice and legendary dance moves. With 40 years of music as part of his legacy, it’s a daunting task to pick the ten best.

But we were up to the challenge…

10) ‘Butterflies’ (Invincible, 2001)

- Written by Marsha Ambrosius.‘Butterflies,’ was the stand out single from Michael’s final album, ‘Invincible.’ The song relies on Michael’s normal singing voice rather than the heavily percussive vocal style he began using heavily around the time of his ‘Dangerous,’ album.

9) ‘Stranger In Moscow’ (HIStory: Past Present & Future Book 1, 1995)

The criminally overlooked ‘Stranger In Moscow,’ featured Michael lamenting the loneliness of fame with such an unflinching honesty, it’s amazing that Michael released it as single!

8 ) ‘I Wanna Be Where You Are’ (Got To Be There, 1972)

‘I Wanna Be Where You Are,’ was the third single taken from Michael’s first solo album, ‘Got To Be There.’ The song was written by Leon Ware and T-Boy Ross, Diana Ross’ brother. The pair went on to write Marvin Gaye’s entire ‘I Want You album,’ which included a version of this song.

7) ‘Remember The Time’ (Dangerous, 1991)

Produced by Teddy Riley, ‘Remember The Time,’ may be the last Michael song, that all of his fans would unanimously agree is a classic. Though rooted in the new jack swing style made popular by Riley in the late 80s and early 90s, the song manages to not sound overly-dated. Kinda ironic for a song with this title, no?

6) ‘Got To Be There’ (Got To Be There, 1971 )

Released as the first solo single from Michael, ‘Got To Be There,’ showcases what a powerhouse vocalist Michael was even at the age of 13.

5) ‘Rock With You’ (Off The Wall, 1978 )

Any time this song is played, someone within listening range is probably doing a mean two-step.

4) ‘I Can’t Help It’ (Off The Wall, 1978 )

Written by Stevie Wonder, ‘I Can’t Help It,’ has a jazzy sensibility that had rarely been heard from Michael before. Definitely a classic!

3) ‘Human Nature’ (Thriller, 1982)

One of the most beautiful songs in Michael’s catalogue, ‘Human Nature,’ has remained a fan favorite since its release.

2) ‘Billie Jean’ (Thriller, 1982 )

‘Billie Jean,’ became one of the biggest hits on the ‘Thriller,’ album, but almost didn’t make the album, because Michael and producer Quincy Jones disagreed over the quality of the song. Fortunately Michael won and the rest is HIStory…

1) ‘Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough’ (Off The Wall, 1978 )

‘Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough,’ has remained a party staple for nearly thirty-five years. Guaranteed to get the party started, the song packs a ton of energy that’s best released on a dance-floor.

Not a bad list at all. Some of my favorites aren't on the list but honestly it's hard to do a Top 10 when it comes to Michael Jackson songs.

'Remember The Time may be the last Michael song, that all fans would unanimously agree is a classic'

 Shows how little they know.

Pretty good list, considering. The omission of Man In The Mirror is verging on criminal though.

Whatever. Where are the songs from "Bad" man? Where is "Who is it"?

It's actually kinda nice to see a top 10 that doesn't have Thriller and Beat It on it

Yeah, I agree. Though my list would be definitely different, but it's refreshing this music critic (unlike most) actually knows more from Michael than the Thriller album.... It's refreshing to see songs from History, Invincible and Dangerous be praised. (Though I would not have necessarily picked these songs from these albums, but others.)

not bad.
but I know my top 10 would be different if I had one :D
It's too difficult for me to choose, especially if I have to consider his younger years.

1,3,4,5,6,8 and 10 would be out of my top 10! aha, they are great great great songs, especially i can't help it, human nature and don't stop till you get enough, although human nature for me is much better live, the studio version doesn't capture the magic, especially with the rushed faded out ending. But then again everyone's top 10 will be differen't/

Very decent list. It's refreshing to see Stranger In Moscow and Butterflies get recognized.

It's impossible for me to pick Top 10. I love more than 10. However, as much I love little Michael, I don't think I'd put I Wanna Be Where You are and Got To Be There in Top 10.

THEY REMEMBERED INVINCIBLE !!!

I'm in chok! - A state of shock.

It's a shame that there wasn't any songs from the Bad album on that list. The entire album is beyond fantastic

stranger in Moscow, speechless, smooth criminal, beat it are my all time MJ favorite. Only one in the list. Glad to see they mentioned Invincible, but to me it's impossible to make a michael jackson top 10.

10. Don't Stop Til You Get Enough

Speechless

This list is pretty good. But it is so difficult to narrow his classics down to 10. There are so many. But there isn't a song on that list that I don't love. And when SIM and Butterflies is also considered, it makes my stomach flutter.

great list. very non-commercial and sounds like this person actually knows their mj tunes instead of just the same old stuff that made it to number 1.
good work and thanks for posting

I started to write a top 10 to post but got stuck so scrapped that idea.

It's impossible to try and define 10 songs to put in a list. The only ones I know for sure are Who Is It, Unbreakable & Man In The Mirror.

I like the list but I couldn't manage to make my MJ's top 10.. too many classic songs:)

Where is "Who is it"?

I was also thinking the exact same thing. Especially since I have this slight obsession with that song.

It is a really good list but it could of have been better. By putting songs like Liberian Girl, Smooth Criminal, and Dirty Diana in that list. But I'm glad they remember the Invincible album. I could never really name my top 10 MJ songs because my top 10 changes all of the time. But a song like Who Is It will always remain number 1 for me.

Maybe not everyones top 10 but I like how this lost mentions songs that a lot of non-fans won't have heard of.
