1990
Michael suffers more chest pains and tests are carried out. Throughout the day, Jackson family members visit their brother in hospital while his sister, LaToya, sends him a dozen black roses. The suspected heart attack is now thought to have been a nervous attack brought on by the star’s heavy workload, which includes an overdue new album. Bob Jones tells the press, “Michael has been under a lot of pressure lately. His friend Sammy Davis, Jr. passed away, his grandmother passed away about a month ago and his friend, Ryan White died of AIDS last month.”

Quote of the day: "How I love this mystery called We! Where does it come from, out of thin air? I thought about this mystery, and I realized something: We must be love's favorite child, because until I reach out for you, We is not even there. It arrives on the wings of tenderness: it speaks through our silent understanding. When I laugh at myself, it smiles. When I forgive you, it dances in jubilation."

ENJOY! :)

Back in 1984, King was promoting the Victory Tour, starring Michael Jackson and his brothers. The tour was a colossal failure, but King recognized this early and unloaded several East Coast dates to Chuck Sullivan, whose family still owned the Patriots at the time.

And none of that might have happened if King hadn't pawned off the Victory Tour on Sullivan. (in reference to the New England Patriot's football team)

Ticket controversy and other business issues

The original tour promoter was a novice, Chuck Sullivan, the son of New England Patriots owner, Billy Sullivan. Regardless, the tour sold what was then a record number of tickets at $30/seat (which was viewed as extraordinarily high price at the time.) But, the promotion side of the business was plagued by problems. Nonetheless, the Jacksons themselves ended up making very good money based on excellent ticket sales and the financial deal they struck with Sullivan. The Jacksons netted approximately $36 million. Despite the ticket demand and success, Sullivan however lost millions, and at one point Sullivan stopped payment on a $1.9 million check to the band. The original itinerary included 40 dates. Based on the ticket demand, the tour was expanded to 55 days, all in major stadiums, except for two nights at Madison Sq. Gardens. The tour losses sustained by Sullivan, coupled with a huge advance paid to Michael Jackson for his non-tour merchandising rights, ultimately compromised the operation of the Patriots, forcing the Sullivan family to sell the football team by 1988. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_Tour_(The_Jacksons_tour)

People In The News Dec 5 1984

Los Angeles (AP)
After a dispute over the proceeds threatened to cancel the shows. Michael Jackson and his brothers have agreed to cap their five-month, 20-city Victory Tour with three additional performances, one of their promoters said.

"The concerts are on," tour co-promoter Don King said Tuesday. "The Jacksons voted to go on and play regardless of the money."

King said the brothers will receive $1.5 million for the three shows in spite of the potential gross of $4.5 million. Co-promoter Chuck Sullivan would get the remainder he said.

He said the cancellation threat was triggered when Sullivan stopped payment on a payment of $1.9 million due the Jacksons because of expenses due to cancellation of two concerts in Phoenix when Jermaine Jackson fell ill.

"Chuck Sullivan has created a new theory of promoting." King said. It's "If I lose, give me my money back. The Jacksons are going along with it because of their fans."

Sullivan was in a convalescent home recovering heart trouble Tuesday, but spokesman Jim Murray said "Chuck Sullivan will not respond to any personal attacks by Don King.

"Chuck Sullivan's more than willing to take criticism for the things he did wrong and is happy that he played a part in getting three million people to see the Jackson family perform."
