It is confirmed that the Jacksons will bank all the money orders sent in for concert tickets and collect the interest. It is announced that due to knee surgery, Jackie will not be performing with his brothers on the tour.

Quote of the day: I've looked up at the night sky and beheld the stars so intimately close, it was as if my grandmother had made them for me. "How rich, how sumptuous," I thought. In that moment I saw God in His creation. I could as easily have seen Her in the beauty of a rainbow, the grace of a deer bounding through a meadow, the truth of a father's kiss. But for me the sweetest contact with God has no form. I close my eyes, look within, and enter a deep soft silence. The infinity of God's creation embraces me. We are one.

The logistics of ticket sales were especially problematic. The original procedure was that fans had to buy the tickets in blocks of four (at a cost of $30 per ticket), with a limit of one block of four per address. In addition, tickets had to be paid for using a US Post Office money order, using the original application form found in participating newspapers; copies of the forms were not allowed. Because of these requirements, some post offices had run out of money orders, and some enterprising entrepreneurs bought extra copies of newspapers with an application form, for cities that don't have a participating newspaper. Some fans went out at dawn and stole newspapers off neighbors' lawns to get the forms http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_Tour_(The_Jacksons_tour)

Outside the stadium, Andy Bowden of Altha was trying to sell 24 tickets at the proper price, $30 each. He had ordered the tickets by mail in blocks of four, which was the only way to get them before the Jacksons’ organization switched in midstream and allowed over-the-counter sales. “First what I did was send in made-up names and coupons and $720 worth of money orders,” Bowden said. He said he was startled when ge got a strip of 24 tickets, all in sequential order in good locations. He and his friends rented a limousine so they could attend the concert first-class. “We’re just here to have a good time,” Bowden said. http://jacksonville.com/news/metro/... 2%80%99_victory_tour_in_jackso#ixzz1yjNA2uNX

In many cities, the Jacksons' concert will climax months of feverish anticipation—and, in some cases, increasingly vocal complaints. Everyone had assumed that the tour would present complicated logistical and security problems—particularly since most preparations had been marred by byzantine, behind-the-scenes turmoil. Before last Thursday, when Michael announced new ticketing plans and the donation of his profits to charity, reports of greed and incompetence had outraged some fans and perhaps contributed to sluggish ticket sales in Dallas. But other fans loyally demonstrated their enthusiasm. In Kansas City, the hoopla began in June. When newspapers containing the first official ticket order forms rolled off the presses in the early hours of June 19, fans were lined up to buy them. "It's ridiculous!" said disc jockey Roy Leonard, who has been following the Jackson craze for the Chicago radio station WGN: "People were stealing papers off other people's front lawns." Many local newspapers, in cities like Omaha and Dallas, hoping to boost sales, gladly printed the Jacksons' official tour-ticket order forms—for nothing.

At Tavern On The Green, Michael gave a 5-minute Speech. The following is Michael's speech at a press conference on July 5, 1984, the day before the tour began: "We're beginning our tour tomorrow and I wanted to talk to you about something of great concern to me. We've worked a long time to make this show the best it can be. But we know a lot of kids are having trouble getting tickets. The other day I got a letter from a girl in Texas named Ladonna Jones. She'd been saving her money from odd jobs to buy a ticket, but with the current tour system, she'd have to buy four tickets and she couldn't afford that. So, I've asked our promoter to work out a new way of distributing tickets, a way that no longer requires a $120.00 money order. There has also been a lot of talk about the promoter holding money for tickets that didn't sell. I've asked our promoter to end the mail order ticket system as soon as possible so that no one will pay money unless they get a ticket. Finally, and most importantly, there's something else I am going to announce today. I want you to know that when I first agreed to tour, I decided to donate all the money I make from our performances to charity." http://www.thefullwiki.org/Victory_Tour_(The_Jacksons_tour)
