Michael leaves his hotel at around 8.20pm for dinner with Uri Geller and his family.




2003

Michael arrives back in his hometown of Gary, Indiana. Outside the Gary City Hall the crowd cheers as he emerges from a black limousine at 12.30 pm. Wearing a black suit and holding a umbrella, Michael climbs to the top of the steps outside City Hall and turns to wave to hundreds of people who have gathered outside to see him. Once inside, Michael tells the invited guests that it was his first time back in Gary since the age of 9. The mayor presents Michael with a key to the city, saying, “Now that you have the key, you don’t have to be a stranger.” At a press conference for the event Mayor King announces that Michael will help with building a new Performing Arts Center in Lake County city to be known as the ’Michael J. Jackson Performing Arts Center.’ Michael then makes the short journey to his childhood home, 2300 Jackson Street. Roughly the size of a two-car garage, Michael’s former home now belongs to Tim Brown, a cousin of Michael’s father, Joseph Jackson. In the living room, Michael tells Brown and other relatives: “We rehearsed, rehearsed and rehearsed all the time.” Later in the day Michael visits Roosevelt High School where he received a framed Honorary High School Diploma, and in the eveevening Michael attends ’Salute to the Troops’, an event held at the Baseball Stadium in Gary that was open to the public with free admission. Mayor King gives a brief speech, which is followed by a presentation to Michael from world wide fan group, MJ Unity. According to Los Angeles Superior Court spokesman, Kyle Christopherson, the lawsuit between Myung-Ho Lee and Michael has been settled. Myung-Ho Lee, a Korean businessman and his firm Union Finance and Investment Corp were suing Michael for breach of contract stating that Michael owed him $12 million in back pay for his services. Michael had applied to have the case dismissed. The terms of the settlement remain confidential. [Videos @ The end]

Michael releases the following statement on hearing the news of the death of Ray Charles, who passed away yesterday. “I am saddened to hear of the death of my friend, Ray Charles. He was a true legend … an American Treasure. His music is timeless; his contributions to the music industry … unequalled; and his influence, unparalleled His caring and humility spoke volumes. He paved the way for so many of us, and I will forever remember him in my heart.”
