April 5
1979 - The Wiz, a remake of The Wizard of Oz featuring Michael as The Scarecrow is released in the UK
1990 - Michael meets with President Bush at the White House Rose Garden ceremony to be honoured as 'Entertainer Of The Decade' by the Capital Children's Museum, Washington DC. Michael who has long been devoted to children's causes receives the award for his philanthropic activities for children. President Bush tells the gathered press that Michael did what he called 'Points of Light' good work on humanitarian issues. The Friends of the Capital Children's Museum hold a fund-raising evening as part of their special ceremony to honour Michael. The guests pay $5,000 for tickets to the exclusive collar and tie event at the historic Merrywood Estate in McLean.
1990 - Michael telephones to check on his friend Ryan White's condition. He is put on speaker phone in an attempt to provoke some response from Ryan, who has now been in a coma for four days.
2003 - Michael appears as a surprise guest at the 8th Annual Palm Beach International Film Festival Grand Gala Awards Show, at Boca Raton Resort, Palm Beach, Florida. More than 500 guests are stunned when Michael arrives at the $1,000-a-plate dinner, joining producer Robert Evans at the centre table, where several other surprise guests were seated including Chris Tucker and Brett Ratner.
2005 - Michael Jackson attends the funeral of Johnnie Cochran Jr. his former attorney passed away March 29th of a brain tumor.
April 6
1983 - Michael attends a post-concert party for Liza Minelli at the New Universal Amphitheater, Hollywood with Quincy Jones and David Geffen.
1999 - In the 'CD First' poll for the Greatest Pop Artist of the Nineties, Michael takes a staggering 90% of the votes.
