What if Michael Jackson's movie is a blockbuster?

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- "Michael Jackson's This Is It," the documentary capturing the beloved singer during rehearsals for what was supposed to be a world tour, debuts Tuesday. Crucially, it marks the first step for Michael Jackson Ltd.
The movie was filmed not long before Jackson died on June 25. If it turned out to be a blockbuster, this would be a clear indication that Jackson continued to have powerful commercial prospects -- and his family and various managers could unleash a sort of Michael Jackson Ltd. on the public. Their efforts could feature every imaginable memento -- for sale, of course. The endeavor might seem so crass that people would yearn for a simpler situation -- like, say, Elvis Presley's Graceland!
Since Jackson died, the public has been obsessed by trying to understand how someone with so much talent and promise could die so tragically. Even though we hate to admit it, a celebrity's death can be a boon to business possibilities. Columbia Pictures, which acquired the footage of the show's rehearsals and made the concert documentary, is counting on the fans' fascination to continue.

Ultimately, "This Is It" will test Jackson's market strength with his public.

The footage depicts a Michael Jackson who seemed primed to make a major comeback from his scandalous personal life and a lengthy absence from the concert stage.
Jackson's handlers have been careful to point out that their client was determined to make the public forget the off-stage circus. Jackson was always at his best as a performer, singing, dancing and electrifying audiences. And the film is designed to show him at his most charismatic.
It appears that the potential could be unlimited for Michael Jackson Limited.

What a dumb-azz, didn't this reporter see that 750,000 tickets were sold at the O2 in less than hours?

Jeezus Cripes. Concrete and accurate journalism is truly dead.

I agree. The world was ready for Michael tour including America. Michael would have done great dead or alive.

Hits Daily Double Is predicting in the US Jackson's This Is It soundtrack will debut at #1, selling over 300,000 copies (same numbers as Invincible), and damn good for an album most fans thought nobody would buy and for an album that is essentially re-releases.
