The two things that annoy you about the music industry today?

What bugs me the most about mainstream music is the lack of melody or no melody at all in it's songs.

Now it's like it's fashonable just to see how melodic-less people can make they're music these days.

i agree with charging too much.
but i also am in the minority, because i am tired of people complaining about autotune and melodyne. any technology is good or bad, depending on whose hands it's in.

I think auto-tune and the fact that people try to show us that they can sing by holding out notes really long. It really annoys me because people think that's what makes a good singer.

Something which does annoy me very much, other than auto-tune and everything else mentioned, is when certain albums or singles are released for non-physical MP3 download only.

I voted over compression and costing too much. I went and bought The Union by Elton John and Leon Russel yesterday and (even though it cost me nothing as I had a voucher) it was $32NZD. That was at the independent music store i shop at, at the major chain megastore of the country it is $23 which is fine I guess. $20NZD is where new release music should sit i reckon.

And lack of dynamic range is the bane of any audiophile. I sort of accept it as part of modern CD releases and just ignore that it's compressed and enjoy it like that. But it's when remasters of older albums get re-released with better transfers only to have been brickwalled. I'm one of these audiophile geeks that buys original CD masters recommended on the Steve Hoffman forum and all that shit :D

Autotune is fine if it is used sparingly, copy protection that goes into your computer hasn't happened recently, that's from a few years back with the rootkit. And different bonus tracks only annoy me when they are iTunes only as opposed to Japan or America only.

Edit: I like the fact the poll adds to 190% - 10% for every vote, haha.

Charging too much for music is one of the most irritating things about how the music industry goes about things today. If you look at iTunes, you will see what I am on about. Originally, iTunes charged only $0.99 per song. Then, they upped the price for more "successful" artists to $1.29. Now, in some states, they are adding tax on to that online purchase. I think that's ridiculous. Same with the "album only" songs--like people are seriously going to purchase the entire album just for one song. No wonder so many people look to online sharing for their music.

The second thing is--everyone sings about the exact same things. It's all sex and materialism for these people. That's why artists like Michael Jackson stick out in the mainstream--because they are not only widely successful, but relevant to culture as a whole. The songs Michael wrote, such as Heal the World, have lasting cultural value and are truly priceless. Nothing like that exists in the mainstream today. It's all about sex, relationships, and money.

Nice idea, it may turn into a very interesting discussion!

Firstly, I've voted for the bad use of the 'new' technologies, I mean, even in the 80's, if you listen to an A-ha or Alphaville record (and many others) you can realise that although it's all about electronic music, it's still all about MUSIC! Something that, is very very very rare to see (hear, actually) nowadays.

But what makes me really mad is the fact that, more than ever, the "music" releases are just concerned about how much it's gonna sell, and fu** off the quality. I mean, there must be many great musicians out there, but you only see the crap ones on the media (with one or two exceptions, I guess), these people aren't artists, they're just PRODUCTS (and bad quality products :p). And that encourages the future people who's gonna sell CDs under their names (and the ones who intend to be artists) to "play this game" too, just like their "heroes".

That's one of the reasons I'm glad there are so many MJ's fans out there. We may not be lost! :)

i voted for Different region releases having bonus tracks that your region didn't get:yes:

The music industry is after turning 'artists' today into plain, soulless robots. Their over-produced voices, to start with. The increase of nauseous Euro-pop sounds used by virtually any artist today, even those formerly non-commercial. Then trashiness being disseminated all over, oversexualized lyrics and images, plus complete disregard toward actually respecting the viewer, towards his frail subconscious mind, now more and more invaded by productions starting to look more and more like plain porn and plain violence. The unconscious universe of the human brain is being overly cultivated and encourages it to manifest into the conscious, and that's the last thing mankind needs today, more 'free' people of this irrational kind.. Forget about kids having access to all this more and more.

I hate the fact that a good singing voice and talented writers have nothing to do with the Music Industry any more..........

Another thing that annoys me is that 80% of today's artists are just attention seekers with no actual talent for real music!!!!!

But above all that......What happened to Rhythm in music???.........It's becoming an increasingly rare concept!!!!

1) It makes me sick to see what they do to the GIFTED and TALENTED children that sing for the sake of popularity and money in the Industry !
(Thanks to Michael for EXPOSING them !!):clapping:

2) It makes me ill to see that REAL music doesn't make the world go round, but how it's designed to be fake at any cost, any deception that manipulates the artist that makes the most money at the time !! Even if that means unhappiness to the Package which doesn't resemble the Prize their really trying selling !!
(Thanks again to Michael, for being TRUE to hisself , his MUSIC and his Fans ! )

a few things

artists don't get paid and when they do it is the bottom of the bottom 1)

we as fans gotta wait like 20-40 years to get some songs from our favorite acts because the label has control and keeps things in vaults and doesn't give clearence and permission for things to be released 2)

hot Producer and Songwriter of the moment is forced politically to work with the top tier to 5th tier acts on these labels and it over saturates things something awful 3)

american idol and america's got talent,etc... doesn't prepare you for the business and I feel that false sense of reality needs to be addressed 4)

stop making acts over 35 feel old. where is the ageism mess coming from? there is a sense of pushing a Older act to the curb. 5)
