Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones honor Michael Jackson in the new version of ‘We Are the World’

LOS ANGELES — The late Michael Jackson has a prominent role in the revamped version of “We Are the World.”
Lionel Richie, who wrote the original charity anthem with Jackson, says the King of Pop can be seen in the new video for the track, singing with his sister Janet.

“We left the original footage of that part, but now he is singing with his sister,” Richie said.

“It’s something we wanted to see, but his mother requested it too, for Janet to sing with Michael,” said Quincy Jones, who produced the original track and helped orchestrate the re-recording. “It was perfect. It was meant to be.”

The video is set to make its debut Friday during coverage of the opening ceremony for the Winter Olympics. “We Are the World — 25 for Haiti” features 80 artists, including Pink, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Kanye West and Jennifer Hudson.

Proceeds from sales of the song will benefit earthquake recovery efforts in Haiti.

MichaelJacksonEstateHopesJusticeWillBeDone

Howard Weitzman, the attorney representing John Branca and John McClain, Special Administrators for the Estate of the late superstar Michael Jackson, released a statement Monday following Dr. Conrad Murray’s appearance in court.

“Sadly, today’s events are a painful reminder of Michael’s untimely passing last June 25 and the deep personal loss we continue to share with his fans, his friends, and especially his family and children,” the statement says. “We hope justice will be done. During the years the world was blessed to have known him, Michael chose to use his gifts and artistry to give people hope, to comfort those in need and to spread messages of unity and peace. Because of that legacy he left behind, we believe that in years to come Michael will be remembered far more for the remarkable things he did with his life than for the tragedy of his death.”

Judge Schwartz also placed limitations on Murray's medical practice, ruling that he can't use or prescribe any anesthetic or Propofol. He also barred Murray from giving any heavy sedation meds. Murray can prescribe anxiety medications. The limitations are in place anywhere Murray is licensed to practice.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported Murray was arraigned Monday at LAX Court in Los Angeles and charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the the death of his former patient. Murray pleaded not guilty and was released on $75,000 bail.

Following the DA’s concerns that Murray may be a flight risk, Judge Keith Schwartz ruled that Murray's passport must be turned over, but didn't place travel restrictions within the US.

Judge Schwartz also placed limitations on Murray's medical practice, ruling that he can't use or prescribe any anesthetic, including Propofol. He also barred Murray from giving any heavy sedation meds. The limitations are in place anywhere Murray is licensed to practice.

Murray is ordered to next appear in court on April 5th.

TN Senate rejects Michael Jackson resolution

NASHVILLE - Michael Jackson has joined Justin Timberlake in failing to meet the Tennessee Senate's standards for an honoring resolution.
The resolution honoring the late pop superstar received only seven votes in favor and six against. Measures need at least 17 votes to pass the state's upper chamber.

The Senate vote on the resolution sponsored by Democratic Sen. Beverly Marrero of Memphis came a week after the resolution passed the House with one vote to spare. Lawmakers there noted that Jackson was once married to Lisa Marie Presley of Memphis, so he was Elvis' son-in-law.

The Senate in 2007 declined to honor Timberlake, a Tennessee native from outside Memphis, because his lyrics were too racy.

More details as they develop online and in Friday's News Sentinel.

Michael Jackson Estate Forces SF's Neverland to Change Name

neverland%20full%20band%20small.jpg

[Updated 2:45 p.m.] When Michael Jackson died last June, San Francisco found comfort in parties paying homage to the King of Pop. From the generator gig up in Alamo Square to the flash dance down at the Embarcadero, this city expressed its appreciation for Jackson's historic career all over the city. But perhaps the biggest event in the icon's honor came from Neverland, a year-old, 14-piece Michael Jackson tribute band that includes a whopping four vocalists, a horn section, and a six-piece rhythm section. That group claims it recently came under fire from Jackson's Estate, however, which issued a cease and desist letter telling the group to stop using the Neverland name.

Band leader and trumpeter Morty Okin's response was shock. He says Neverland is part of the Peter Pan story as well as the name of Jackson's sprawling homestead. The band claims its attorneys couldn't find any registered trademark of "Neverland" by the Jackson Estate.

Okin is a vet of tribute acts. He was a founder of Superdiamond (but only stayed on a couple shows) and currently works in another dozen-plus member homage, the 13-piece strong Barely Manilow. Of that last act, he says with tangible relief, "So far no legal issues!"

He says this experience doesn't alter his passion for Michael Jackson, but it does "put a bad taste in my mouth" when it comes to the suits handling the entertainer's affairs. "It sucks to be bullied," he adds. "It would be interesting what MJ himself would have to say about this. With a bunch of MJ tributes out there, we think he'd be most proud of us for delivering his music and entertainment value as it should be."

Neverland has played 15 shows since its idol's death, including a Redwood City show for 5,000 fans. It will continue delivering the entertainment value of Jackson's music, but now under another name: Foreverland. (Subtitled: "a 14-piece tribute to Michael Jackson.")

Okin never got to see Jackson live, but says other Foreverlanders have. As for his own personal MJ memories, though, he says, "I will never forget the day Thriller came out. I was in middle school then and glued to the TV the day it aired."

[SIZE=+2]Michael Jackson History[/SIZE]

1976 – The Jackson V perform their Final Jackson 5 Tour in Manila (Philippines), at Folk Art Theater.

1979 - The Jacksons are on the cover of The World`s No. 1 Soul Music Magazine “Blues & Soul”, of the United Kingdom. The main article in two pages is about The Jacksons ten golden Years.

1988 - After months of negotiations, Michael Jackson buys a ranch in California. The property was purchased from golf course entrepreneur William Bone, for $14.6 million, where he built Neverland. The ranch is located at 5225 Figueroa Mountain Rd, Los Olivos, California, about 5 miles (8 km) north of unincorporated Los Olivos (about eight miles (13 km) north of the town of Santa Ynez), in the Santa Ynez Valley. The property covers an area of over 2,800 acres (11 km2). The area surrounding Neverland previously consisted of working ranches; today, the area is made up of vineyards. Macauley Culkin helped him design the amusement park. Neverland Ranch was built in 1981 by real estate developer William Bone, from whom Michael Jackson bought the property for $19.5 million in 1987.

1989 - Michael accepts two Brits Awards via satellite. Venue: Royal Albert Hall in London.

1989 - Just two weeks after the end of the Bad World Tour, on February 13, 1989, Michael fired manager Frank DiLeo, a former executive at Epic Records, who had been with him since 1984 who reportedly was seeking a $60 million settlement to prevent him revealing Jackson's life style to the press. Despite his success at the helm of the Victory and Bad tours, and in negotiating endorsement deals with Pepsi, DiLeo had also failed to get Moonwalker into North American theaters, despite high demand. It is also thought Michael blamed DiLeo for being behind his wacky Tabloid image, despite the fact that subjects like the oxygen chamber and Elephant Man skeleton had been Michael’s ideas. The firing had immediate repercussions when Michael was convinced by his family to perform concerts with his brothers in South Korea by the Moonie religious organization, who had literally offered a million-dollar reward to any family member who could convince Michael to do them. The shows, scheduled for August 1989, never happened, and subsequent lawsuits and counter-suits proved to be more trouble than the deal was worth. DiLeo had been the one in the past to shield Michael from his family’s opportunistic demands, and had even turned down the same million-dollar offer from the Moonie’s representative to negotiate Michael’s part in the concerts. Michael later rehired Frank DiLeo in 2009, not long before his untimely death.

1993 – Michael Jackson is on the cover of Look-In Magazine, from the United Kingdom. The main article is entitled “Willkommen *****!”, a look in two pages over Michael Jackson`s actions in Germany.

1997 - Prince Michael Jackson - Michael’s first child, was born on February 13, 1997 at 1:07 a.m. in Los Angeles. Debbie Rowe gives birth to Prince Michael Joseph Jackson Jr at the Cedar Sinai Medical Center of Los Angeles. Michael attends the birth and soon takes his son to Neverland. His Godmother is Elizabeth Taylor and his Godfather is Macaulay Culkin. Originally thought to be the bioglogical son of Michael and wife Debbie Rowe, since Michael’s death it has since been suggested that he and sister Paris might actually be the progeny of Rowe and dermatologist Arnold Klein, for whom Rowe was working when she met Michael. Grace Rwaramba and Pia Bhatti are hired as Prince's nannies and they move to Neverland with Omer Bhatti.

1998 - Adrian Grant holds an exclusive interview of Michael in his hotel suite of Los Angeles. Michael Jackson & Omer Bhatti hosts a party for Prince 1st birthday.

2000 - Michael hosts a party for Prince's 3rd birthday at Neverland.

2001 - Michael hosts a party for Prince's 4th birthday.

2002 - Michael hosts a party for Prince's 5th birthday at Neverland.

2002 - It was announced that Michael Jackson, Sting, Barry Manilow and Randy Newman are amongst the latest names to be inducted into the "Songwriters Hall of Fame".

2003 - Michael host a Spiderman theme party for Prince's 6th birthday at Neverland.

2004 - As Michael celebrates his son Prince 7th birthday, Geragos & Brafman go to Santa Maria Courthouse where they obtain a delay of the prelimiary hearing to have more time to study the prosecution case.

2005 - Michael celebrates his son Prince's 8th birthday at Neverland.

2006 - Michael hosts a big party for Prince's 9th birthday.

2007 - Michael takes Prince, Paris & Blanket to a shopping spree at the FAO Schwarz of the Forum shops at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Later Michael hosts a big party for Prince 10th birthday.

2008 - Michael hosts a party for Prince's 11th birthday.

Thriller is the biggest selling album in America (overtaking the Eagles)

http://riaa.com/goldandplatinumdata.php?table=tblTop100

Level Title Artist Label
29 THRILLER JACKSON, MICHAEL EPIC/LEGACY
29 EAGLES/THEIR GREATEST HITS 1971 - 1975 EAGLES ELEKTRA
23 LED ZEPPELIN IV LED ZEPPELIN ATLANTIC
23 THE WALL PINK FLOYD COLUMBIA
22 BACK IN BLACK AC/DC EPIC
21 DOUBLE LIVE BROOKS, GARTH CAPITOL NASHVILLE
21 GREATEST HITS VOLUME I & VOLUME II JOEL, BILLY COLUMBIA
20 COME ON OVER TWAIN, SHANIA MERCURY NASHVILLE

But hey... look at this..., that could mean that from the GHs of the Eagles should have sold (now) over 33-35 mill. albums....

152e1k5.jpg

The thing is that The Eagles have never had the biggest selling album in the US, it was a plot of record companies to boost the selling of albums....

There has never been anything like Thriller vs. The Eagles.

They have never sold more than 25 mill. copies of their GHs compilation...

Thriller since day one, I mean, when the album reached the status of best selling album, has been the best seller in the US....

There is NO OFFICIAL STATISTICAL PROOF/NO OFFICIAL CHART PERFORMANCES STATISTICS that the Eagles surpassed Thriller!

Please, spread this info on the discussions on the articles on the net...!!!

BTW, Thriller25 has sold over 2 mill. only in the US, so... + the classic Thriller + LP...., RIAA and Epic consciously dont present the facts and reality...

Less-than-stellar remake 'We Are the World' debuts at Olympics in Vancouver

"We Are the World" got a bad rap. Not the original charity anthem recorded in 1985, but the 25th-anniversary remake that debuted Friday night during coverage of the Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

The updated take was horribly oversung, but it was largely faithful to the original tune written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie -- save for the 21st-century rap verses added toward the end of the track. One group rap-along, penned by Will.I.Am and led by LL Cool J, ends with a particularly platitudinous couplet: "We are the world connected by a common bond: Love! The whole planet is singing along."

Just probably not to this version. The remake starts with a slew of well-endowed vocal cords hyperextending themselves during precious seconds in front of the microphone.

Guilty parties from the opening verse include Jennifer Hudson, Justin Bieber, Josh Groban and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland, each of them cramming too many notes into not enough syllables. Take it easy, guys.

If the original cast assembled by producer Quincy Jones were "the children," this new ensemble that Jones and Richie summoned the day after the Jan. 31 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles are the grandchildren. It's a sprawling extended family of singers -- more than 80 altogether. That's almost twice as many as the first cast, handfuls of them not even born when the original was recorded.

But despite the maxed-out guest list, quite a few future legends were absent. Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, Britney Spears, Rihanna and Mariah Carey were some of the biggest names not at the recording session. Also, there were too few voices from the country, rock and Latin music communities.

And that's really what's most disappointing about this overblown redux. Nobody can argue with its worthy cause -- the song's latest proceeds will go to earthquake relief in Haiti -- but the recording's original thrill was due to the panoply of voices gracefully working together: a reedy Willie Nelson, a roaring Bruce Springsteen, an angelic Michael Jackson.

On the new version -- its video will be simulcast around the world Saturday -- Jackson's original vocal contribution was wisely left intact.

New Version of Michael Jackson's We Are the World is the Latest Sign of People Loving the King of Pop All Over Again

Since His Death, the World Seems to Be Taking Another View of Michael Jackson

A new version of Michael Jackson's co-authored landmark song "We Are the World" has been recorded and presented to the world as an effort to raise money for earthquake release in Haiti. Jackson co-wrote the song in 1985 with Lionel Richie.

A shortened video of the song was released during Olympic Opening Ceremonies on Friday night. On Saturday afternoon, the full seven minute video was played around the world for the first time. Fans can download the video with all proceeds going to Haiti as the nation recovers from a devastating earthquake.

Nearly eight months after Jackson's untimely passing, the release of the new version of "We Are the World" is the latest in a string of events that have served to enhance Jackson's musical and humanitarian legacy, and begin to introduce his message and work to younger generations.

Recent months have seen increasing evidence that old and unproven allegations against Jackson are fading from public view as the world reflects more on his music and his humanitarian work. When major networks, institutions and the Olympics include Michael Jackson's work and his images in their productions and honors, it seems that the claims against him are more discredited than ever in the court of public opinion.

For example, in January, Jackson's landmark Thriller video become the first music video to be included in the National Film Archives in the United States. In addition, Jackson's Earth Song became the first 3D video presentation at a live awards show as the Grammy Awards made it one of the highlights. During the same show, two of Jackson's children, Prince and Paris, accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award on their father's behalf.

2010 We Are The World video premieres featuring duet between Michael and Janet Jackson

Michael Jackson appears from beyond the grave to sing a duet with sister Janet in the music video for the We Are The World remake.

The Thriller star can be seen alongside Janet on a split screen as footage from the video of the 1985 original is featured next to the new version.
The duet was an ode to the King of Pop, who co-wrote the song with Lionel Richie. It was also a request from Michael’s mum, Katherine, to have the pair sing together on the new track.

Tape could clear ***** Doctor

(or send him to prison)

copnrad_516x300_92557a.jpg

ESCORT - Dr Conrad Murray with Los Angeles County Sheri

exclusive.gif

By James Desborough, 14/02/2010
THE tape of a voicemail left by Doctor Murray as King Of Pop Michael Jackson "lay dying" could be the key piece of evidence in the star's death trial.

The News of the World has obtained the recording - which incredibly will be used by BOTH the defence and prosecution to try and win their cases.

Dr Conrad Murray, who has pleaded not guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter, left an 18-second message for a patient on the morning of *****'s death in June last year.

In the recording - which can be heard here - Murray, 56, sounds calm as he informs patient Bob Russell about a heart scan:

"This is Doctor Murray, Bob. Hi, how are you? Um, sorry I missed you. Just wanted to talk to you about your results of the EECP. You did quite well on the study. We would love to continue to see you as a patient even though I may have to be absent from my practice for, uh, because of an overseas sabbatical."

However, the call took place at 11:54am - the same time Los Angeles cops claim Murray was frantically carrying out CPR on Jackson in his bedroom after a deadly intake of drug Propofol.

But his lawyers will insist that this piece of evidence blows away police reports that the doctor admitted to starting CPR on the star around 10:52am.

A source close to the Murray team said: "It's clear from the voicemail that Murray is not a man who sounds frantic, worried or in a stressful position.

"But if the police's timeline is correct, then he would have been almost an hour into giving Jackson CPR." Murray's lawyer Ed Chernoff aims to discredit cops' initial interviews with his client in a bid to convince a jury that they bungled the enquiry.

If he wins this row then Murray could discredit every interview by LAPD detectives.

Calm

In their documents filed last July, detectives say Murray told them he gave Jackson the Propofol and went to the toilet for about two minutes. When he returned, he found Jackson unconscious.

This, along with two other calls the doctor made between 11 and 12 that morning, will be at the centre of his defence.

The source added: "Murray's lawyers know he gave Michael Propofol and understand that killed him. But just what happened in that room in those few hours Michael was last alive will be the key battleground."

However, the prosecution will say the tape strengthens their case. If the cops' version of Murray's timeline IS correct, then it means the call was made while ***** lay unconscious, or dead, in his Hollywood mansion.

Court documents presented by police say Murray was on his mobile for 47 minutes after 11am. Another says Murray told them ***** "stopped breathing" at around 11am.

A 911 call placed by Jackson's bodyguard Alberto Alvarez revealed Murray was doing CPR on his bed to revive the overdosed star at around 12.21pm.

The District Attorney's Office, through homicide detectives Smith and Martinez, say Murray never informed them of these calls.

Evasive

Another source said: "The fact that Murray made this call and didn't tell the police about it may be useful to the prosecution.

"Basically, it shows he was being evasive and had something to hide. Why would you not tell the police about every single thing you had done during those crucial moments when Michael Jackson was dying?"

The prosecution could argue that this call shows that Murray was not in that room or even aware of the victim's problems.

Other theories discussed on US telly debates imply that Murray knew the star was dead - but was covering his tracks by making routine calls.

Even if the timeline is wrong, prosecutors will argue that Murray's calls while ***** was hooked up to an IV drip show he wasn't paying full attention.

We revealed last year how Murray will claim drug addict Jackson, 51, knew how to self-administer.

Last night a spokesman for the LAPD insisted: "The investigation into the death of Michael Jackson was conducted in a professional manner."

Our exclusive picture of *****'s Deathbed will also play a vital part in the trial over what equipment Murray used to treat his insomniac patient.

The "We Are the World" remake premiered at the Olympic opening ceremonies in Vancouver Friday night.

Justin Bieber, Barbra Streisand, Pink and Kanye West are among the stars who appear in the video, shot less than two weeks ago in Los Angeles. Proceeds from the song will be donated to Haiti relief.
See pics from the We Are the World recording session!

In one touching moment, Janet Jackson sings alongside video of her brother Michael from the original "We Are the World," recorded 25 years ago. (Michael, who died last June, co-wrote the song with Lionel Richie.)

Meanwhile, moods were at times subdued at the opening ceremonies, which was dedicated to Georgian Nodar Kumaritashvili, who died earlier that day when he lost control of his luge and slammed into a metal pole during a practice run.
A touching tribute: stars gone too soon

Athletes from his Eastern European country considered pulling out of the 2010 Olympics, but decided to compete in honor of him. They donned black arm bands when walking into the opening ceremonies.

It was during last night’s Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, which are being held in Vancouver, that the millions of people watching worldwide got to witness the debut of the “We are the World” remake.
And according to a report at vancouversun.com, the voice of the late and great Michael Jackson, who originally wrote the song with Lionel Ritchie, was mixed into the re-orchestrated version, at the request of Michael’s mother Katherine Jackson.
Producer Quincy Jones, who produced several albums for the King of Pop including “Thriller” which remains the best selling album of all time, said that it was kind of eerie hearing Jackson’s voice on the remake, which also features Janet Jackson.
The original 1985 recording included stars such as Billy Joel, Ray Charles, Diana Ross, Cyndi Lauper, Bruce Springsteen and Smokey Robinson. This time around, the stars performing on the track include Celine Dion, Kanye West and Usher.
And of course, as the song was recorded with the Haiti earthquake disaster in mind, proceeds from the sales will benefit the earthquake recovery efforts. The original 1985 version managed to raise $30 million, for hunger relief in Africa.

I find it offensive that Michael gets called j***o yet the Beatles get called by their right name. I hated this when Michael was alive and I really hate the name now. I find it offensive for a black man to be called out of his name.

1983 - "Beat It" is a song written and performed by American recording artist Michael Jackson and co-produced by Quincy Jones for the singer's sixth solo album, Thriller (1982). Eddie Van Halen was drafted to add the song's distinctive overdriven guitar solo. Following the successful chart performances of the Thriller singles "The Girl Is Mine" and "Billie Jean", "Beat It" was released on February 14, 1983 as the album's third single. The song was promoted with a short film that featured Jackson bringing two gangs together through the power of dance. A commercial success, "Beat It" was awarded two Grammy Awards and two American Music Awards and was inducted into the Music Video Producers Hall of Fame. "Beat It" (along with the song's music video) propelled Thriller into becoming the best-selling album of all time. The single was certified platinum in 1989. Rolling Stone magazine placed "Beat It" in the 337th spot on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and on the list of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. In the decades since its release, "Beat It" has been covered, parodied, and sampled by numerous artists including Fergie, Weird Al Yankovic, and Fall Out Boy. The song was also featured in the National Highway Safety Commission's anti-drunk driving campaign.

1985 - Michael helps with the delivery of Valentino, a baby deer born to his pet deers Prince & Princess at Hayvenhurst.

1991 – Michael Jackson is also named “The Super Soaker Champio”, when he used to play at his happy Neverland. The Super Soaker water gun was patented by scientist and inventor Lonnie G. Johnson. In addition to inventing this much-loved water gun, Johnson has worked with the US Air Force and NASA. Some sources said of the Super Soaker®: "I got fired from a job once because of my Super Soaker. I guess that's what happens when you accidentally drench a customer when you're trying to get a co-worker who ducks." Famous black inventor and scientist Lonnie G. Johnson probably didn't have that little scenario in mind when he invented the Super Soaker squirt gun, but it is one of the countless memories that can be recalled by those who were young enough to enjoy the Super Soaker after its release in 1989. Johnson's resume boasts work with the US Air Force and NASA (including work on the Galileo Jupiter probe and Mars Observer project), a nomination for astronaut training and more than 40 patents, but it's for a squirt gun that he's best known. Johnson conceived of a novelty water gun powered by air pressure in 1982 when he conducted an experiment at home on a heat pump that used water instead of Freon. This experimentation, which resulted in Johnson shooting a stream of water across his bathroom into the tub, led directly to the development of the Power Drencher, the precursor to the Super Soaker. Lonnie G. Johnson has his own company, Johnson Research and Development, and continues to do work for NASA.

1992 - Michael Jackson announced at a Pepsi press conference that he would indeed be touring again. Michael made it clear that he was touring for one reason: to raise funds for his newly formed “Heal the World” foundation. His goal was to gross $100 million by Christmas 1993. The announcement of the tour coincided with a new deal between Michael Jackson and Pepsi: a reported $20 million to sponsor the Dangerous World Tour.

1994 – Michael Jackson is on Jet Magazine, from the United States. The main 5 pages article is entitled “Michael Jackson settles suit, maintains innocence and gets on with his life”.

1994 - Michael Jackson goes to a Denver courtroom to testify that he did not steal the song Dangerous from Crystal Cartier as she proclaims.

1996 – Michael Jackson is on the cover of Veja Magazine, from Brazil: “Michael Jackson no Pais do Carnaval”. O ridiculo sururu pré-carnavalesco

1997 - Michael Jackson releases the following statement with regards to the birth of Michael Joseph "Prince" Jackson Jr.: "Words can't describe how I feel. I have been blessed beyond comprehension and I will work tirelessly at being the best father that I can possibly be. "I appreciate that my fans are elated, but I hope that everyone respects the privacy that Debbie and I want and need for our son. I grew up in a fish bowl and I will not allow that to happen to my child. Please respect our wishes and give my son his privacy." As Michael Jackson held the newborn baby for the first time, he said: "Wow, wow, wow."

2001 - Michael Jackson launches children's foundation. Michael Jackson made an appearance at New York's Carnegie Hall on Valentine's Day to launch the Heal the Kids Foundation. Jackson is chairman of the organization, whose purpose is "promoting nurturing relationships between parents and children and fostering programs that help all children gain the love, attention and quality time they deserve." Jackson co-founded the organization with Heal the Kids' President Rabbi Shmuley Boteach. "The organization is trying to help adults and parents realize it's in our power to change the world our children live in," Jackson told the crowd at Carnegie Hall. The organization has plans to launch television advertisements with celebrities discussing the importance of family dinners. Heal the Kids will also start a book club to encourage parents to read to their children at night.

MJ’S CELEBRITY STATUS TURNS MURRAY’S CASE INTO SPECTACLE

There may not be a bloody glove this time, no smoking gun. There's really not even a celebrity since the person on trial is a doctor that no one had heard of eight months ago.
Still, the case of the People vs. Michael Jackson's doctor has already taken on all the trappings of a full-blown Los Angeles celebrity trial, complete with a gaggle of paparazzi and news photographers staking out the doctor's residence and chasing him everywhere he goes. The mere rumor that he was to be arrested or surrender sent an army of news photographers from all over the world rushing to a courthouse.
So it seems fairly certain that Conrad Murray will join the ranks of O.J. Simpson, Robert Blake and Phil Spector in the pantheon of Los Angeles celebrity defendants, even if he's an obscure Texas cardiologist in a case of medical negligence.
"I hate to be cynical but I've been here long enough to know how this will play," says Judy Muller, who shared in an Emmy for ABC's coverage of the ultimate celebrity trial, the one that ended with O.J. Simpson being acquitted of murder in 1995. "It's Michael Jackson and it's a celebrity trial, even if it's a dead celebrity, and particularly in Los Angeles it's what we're known for."
Not that a trial involving a dead celebrity, even one as beloved as Jackson was, is completely unprecedented. In 1981 a Tennessee jury found Dr. George Nichopoulos not guilty of negligently prescribing drugs to Elvis Presley, whose body contained 14 different stimulants and depressants when he died in 1977. But, comparativly speaking, nobody paid much attention to that trial.
"That was another age, a much more innocent time," says Los Angeles media consultant Jonathan Taplin. "You didn't have a 24-7 media machine that feeds on celebrity, that feeds on raising up celebrities and then bringing them down."
It also occurred outside of Los Angeles, a media hotbed for sensational celebrity trial coverage since an August night in 1969 when a band of Charles Manson's social misfits broke into the home of Sharon Tate and stabbed the actress and her friends to death.
Since then there have been the trials of actor Blake, acquitted of shooting his wife to death after taking her to dinner at his favorite Italian restaurant; of pioneering pop music producer Spector, convicted of fatally shooting actress Lana Clarkson after meeting her at a nightclub; and the grandaddy of them all, Simpson's acquittal of stabbing his ex-wife and her friend to death.
Even Jackson's own trial in nearby Santa Barbara County in 2005, rates high on the celebrity scale, with fans marveling as he danced atop his SUV outside the courthouse one day. Just how the Jackson doctor trial, in which Murray is charged with involuntary manslaughter, will stack up against those depends on some intangibles.
For example, if the judge who hears the case decides to let TV cameras into the courtroom, that will likely ratchet up interest quite a bit. Take the Spector case in point. Spector was tried twice for murder with his first trial ending in a hung jury. With cameras allowed into the courtroom, people tuned in to watch as Spector arrived each day wearing his funny wigs and clothes. But when cameras were banned from the second trial interest waned until the verdict came in.
Jean Rosenbluth, a former federal prosecutor says, "Michael Jackson is Phil Spector times 2 million," adding the King of Pop's influence was so great and his death at age 50 so devastating to his worldwide fan base that interest could be huge.
And there are already more than a dozen Jackson Facebook fan groups, in several languages, with titles like "I Hate Conrad Murray" and "Arrest Conrad Murray." On Twitter, the Murray tweets from both news organizations and private citizens alike pour forth by the minute.
As big as Jackson was, though, it seems doubtful his doctor's case can overshadow Simpson's murder trial. For one thing, notes critical studies professor Todd Boyd, who has written extensively on pop culture and race relations, there's no divisive racial issue this time. For another, a lot of people thought going into that trial Simpson was guilty. Murray on the other hand is accused of accidentally killing Jackson. Says Boyd, "It's not as though some person came to take Michael Jackson's life," he said. "This is a case where a doctor is simply being charged with malpractice and by extension manslaughter."

Michael Jackson’s Doctor’s voicemail leaked. Here it is.

Conrad Murray, the doctor of late singer Michael Jackson is hanging on for dear life. His voicemail has been leaked that can either free him from all charges or go against him and judge him guilty for manslaughter.
Dr. Conrad was the last person who saw MJ alive on 25th June, 2009. During Michael’s final moments, Conrad was present with him and he had voice-mailed another patient from Michael’s house that says, "This is Doctor Murray, Bob. Hi, how are you? Sorry I missed you. Just wanted to talk to you about your results of the EECP.
You did quite well on the study. We would love to continue to see you as a patient even though I may have to be absent from my practice for, uh, because of an overseas sabbatical."
Now, the prosecutor can advocate that the Doctor was surprisingly calm during this message and wasn’t concerned for Michael’s failing health. But, Conrad’s defence attorney can argue that Conrad wasn’t in a frantic state attempting to administer emergency life-resuscitating drug
A source told the News of The World newspaper: "It’s clear from the voicemail that Murray is not a man who sounds frantic, worried or in a stressful position.
But if the police’s timeline is correct, then he would have been almost an hour into giving Jackson CPR."
So, let’s see what eventually transpires.

INSIDE STORY: How Michael Jackson's Kids Are Coping

paris-jackson.jpg

While Dr. Conrad Murray's formal charging in the death of Michael Jackson is certain to pose another emotional time for the pop superstar's surviving family members, his three children – Prince Michael I, 12; Paris, 11; and Prince Michael II ("Blanket"), 7 – have been dealing with their grief with the help of a close-knit family and something new to them: a sense of normalcy.

"They're doing great, thanks to the love and support they've gotten," Adam Streisand, an attorney for their grandmother and guardian Katherine Jackson, told PEOPLE in an interview before Murray's surrender.

Seconds longtime family friend Kathy Hilton, "They're getting along and they have an incredible family."

Since their
father's death last summer, the children have been living at Katherine's Encino, Calif., estate with cousins and other relatives, growing in maturity and confidence as they play with friends and go on outings – now without wearing masks and free of the chaos that once followed their father.

"With the kids running around the house, laughing, playing, they've given each other a lot of joy," says Streisand.

Seeking a Normal Life

The trio's older cousins, who joined Prince and Paris on stage at the Grammys Jan. 31 when they accepted their father's Lifetime Achievement Award (shy Blanket was deemed "too young" to take the stage that night, says Streisand), have become mentors to Michael's kids, who remain a tight-knit group.

Helping Katherine raise the kids is their nanny Grace Rwaramba, who had stopped working for Michael before his death but returned afterward upon Katherine's request. Some Jackson family members don't support Rwaramba's involvement, but a source says, "Katherine's made it very clear that it's important to her that Grace is around. She knows the kids are more important to her than anything."

Katherine and Rwaramba are working to ensure that Michael's kids lead as normal a life as possible. "Nothing over-the-top happens" at home, says a family source. Instead, there are school lessons (they are tutored at the house), iChatting sessions and family dinners.

The children go to karate lessons, the library and church. And even though Katherine may be strict (Prince and Paris had to go behind her back to attended the New Moon premiere last November, says a source), she is also giving them room to grow. "Katherine really listens to the kids," says Streisand. "She wants to give them a sense of freedom when she can. She wants to encourage them."

Building Confidence

Being normal also means a lot less spectacle. When the children venture out in public, their faces are no longer concealed. "They like not wearing the masks," the family source says of the trio. "It's a different experience for them."

Another source notes that Prince and Paris have become more confident over the past several months. "It would have been hard to imagine them going out in public or showing up at someone's house hanging out and playing video games before [their father died]," says the source. "That had a lot to do with Michael, because every time he showed up there were bodyguards and [chaos]. And now, not so much. It feels much more normal and they've adjusted really well to that."

And yet, their father's influence lives on.

"Talking to Prince is like talking to Michael," says the family source. "He's so smart and mature – way beyond his age." Paris, meanwhile, "wants to be a singer."

Adds grandfather Joe, "I was so proud of my grandchildren [at the Grammys]. But I'm always proud of them."

Thriller Live

Thriller-Live--001.jpg

Laudably restrained … Thriller Live. Photograph: Alastair Muir

It needs to be said from the outset that this celebration of Michael Jackson's music doesn't know whether it is what co-producer Adrian Grant terms a "jukebox show", a tribute or a superior form of karaoke. It's a mishmash, but the sort that rumbles along happily.
Thriller Live has been at the Lyric since January 2009, but last week, in a tip of the hat to Jackson's memory, it was relaunched with a new opening, several new songs and "extra choreography". Only those who've seen it before will be able to judge whether the embellishment makes much difference; to a newbie, it feels seamless, extra choreography and all. The revamped opening, in which dancers robotically moonwalk to Gone Too Soon, is laudably restrained, bearing in mind the sentimental depths that could have been plumbed.
There's a meaty musical begging to be written about Jackson's life, but Grant is a fan and keeps the focus on the music. Save for brief segments of narration in the first half, and a dreary audience-participation moment when we're divided into groups and made to sing Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground), the entire two hours and 40 minutes is comprised of Jackson/Jackson 5 hits, performed by an array of capable soloists. None looks or sounds much like *****, but that's a technicality; Thriller Live takes the view that if you want to sing the King of Pop's brilliant tunes, it don't matter if you're black or white – or male or female, given that many of the big numbers are delivered by the 2005 X Factor finalist Maria Lawson.
Jackson defied racial and gender categorisation and would have approved of the cast's diversity, but the constant rotation of lead vocalists comes to smell like an X Factor ***** tribute. It's a scrum, and a series of big dance numbers in the second half add to the busy feeling, but two people stand out: 14-year-old Kieran Alleyne, who performs early hits such as I Want You Back and ABC with a twinkle in his voice, and Ricko Baird, a Californian who knew Jackson, which makes him the indisputable top dog of the mainly English cast.
The show is a bit too overwhelmed by Jackson's achievement – the description of the Jackson 5 as "the world's first teen sensations" should irk the surviving Beatles, for instance – and ends in the mid-1990s, heavy-handedly tracing his evolution into self-styled healer of the world, with screens showing the words "conflict", "hunger" and "racism". It's a small price to pay, though, for a show that otherwise flags up his greatness as a singer and songwriter.
