Michael Jackson's mother praises Vienna tribute

VIENNA – The King of Pop's mother said in a letter made public Monday that next month's global tribute for Michael Jackson in Vienna is "a wonderful idea" and an event that her son would have loved.

The Sept. 26 concert — being planned by Jackson's brother Jermaine — will take place in front of a 17th-century palace in the Austrian capital. The performers haven't been announced, but the event is expected to draw thousands of people.

"An event of this dimension not only keeps Michael's spirit alive, more than that: It gives millions of fans the opportunity to experience his music and celebrate the life of my son," Katherine Jackson wrote. "I am sure Michael would love it."

The hand-signed letter is dated Thursday and was made public by the Austrian event promoters, World Awards Media GmbH.
Michael Jackson died aged 50 on June 25.

Event promoter Georg Kindel has said the tribute was originally planned for London's Wembley Stadium on Aug. 29, which would have been Jackson's 51st birthday, but that Jermaine Jackson decided instead on Vienna. Austria is home to many castles, and Jermaine has said Vienna was chosen as the venue because his brother "loved castles."

In the letter, Katherine Jackson said she immediately considered Jermaine's plan — announced several weeks after he visited Vienna to receive an award in his brother's honor — "a wonderful idea."

"I fully support Jermaine's endeavors to spread Michael's important message of making a better world for us all," she wrote.
Jackson's mother also reached out to fans, saying she was "overwhelmed by the worldwide love and support that my beloved son Michael has received over the past month."

Last week, fans swamped the Web site offering tribute tickets, with prices ranging from ⁈0) to ⁈742).

Nina Ellend, head of publicity at World Awards Media GmbH, said thousands of tickets have been snapped up and that the sale was happening in stages.

Austrian media have reported that Madonna, U2, Lionel Richie and Whitney Houston might be among the performers. However, the tribute's Web site says only that the lineup will include "some of the most popular contemporary artists."

Police: Michael Jackson's Doctor Waited 82 Mins. Before Dialing 911

After treating Michael Jackson all night for insomnia with various powerful drugs, the pop star's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, noticed the singer had stopped breathing around 11 a.m. on June 25, according to a police affidavit.

No less than 82 minutes would pass before a Jackson staffer dialed 911, apparently at the behest of Murray.

This and other alleged suspicious behavior was outlined Monday by an LAPD detective in an unsealed search warrant as part of the ongoing manslaughter investigation into Jackson's death. The document, however, made note that detectives are still determining whether the singer died because of a single doctor, or the "grossly negligent treatment of several doctors" over time.

Doctor on Phone

Murray told police he was continuously monitoring Jackson all night at the singer's Holmby Hills mansion and had administered what would be the singer's final dose of propofol, a hospital-strength anesthetic, at around 10:40 a.m. Murray stated he left Jackson's side for no more than two minutes to use the restroom, only to return to find his patient not breathing.

Police later obtained Murray's cell phone records, which revealed he was on the phone for 47 minutes – in three separate calls – beginning at 11:18 a.m., something he did not reveal to investigators, according to the affidavit. The document suggests Murray was either not paying full attention to Jackson's monitoring, or was frantically making calls following the discovery that the singer had stopped breathing.

On Monday, Murray's attorney, Ed Chernoff, said in a statement: "Much of what was in the search warrant affidavit is factual. However, unfortunately, much is police theory. Most egregiously, the timeline reported by law enforcement was not obtained through interviews with Dr. Murray, as was implied by the affidavit. Dr. Murray simply never told investigators that he found Michael Jackson at 11:00 a.m. not breathing."

No Word About Propofol

The detective's report also alleges that Murray never informed paramedics or emergency room staff that he'd given Jackson propofol – lethal amounts of which were found in the singer's body by the L.A. coroner. Murray said only that he'd given Jackson the sedative lorazepam and an antidote. Police also say Murray refused to sign the death certificate at UCLA Medical Center, where the singer was pronounced dead.

Shortly thereafter, detectives were called to the hospital to aid in the coroner's investigation, but they were unable to locate Murray despite repeated attempts to reach him, the affidavit adds.

Moreover, police say a search of Jackson's home turned up a variety of sedatives and other prescription drugs in multiple vials and bottles – none of which were labeled as prescribed to any patient. There has also been no traceable record of any propofol purchases under Murray's medical license number, according to the document.

Murray, who had been hired by Jackson around March or April of this year and had administered propofol intravenously to the singer nightly for six weeks prior to his death, has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, the L.A. coroner's office, which has yet to release a full autopsy report due to the LAPD's ongoing investigation, has reportedly ruled the singer's death a homicide.

Michael Jackson and the dance scene
August 24, 8:19 PMDayton Ballet Examiner Oriana Lerner

We all know Michael Jackson as the King of pop, but what about as a dancer?

I always thought of him as the Moonwalker, but he was more than. Not only did the raw provocative quality of his movement change the way dance was in popular culture, he was no snob about allowing performers from other, more classical genres to join or teach him.

He once asked Debbie Allen to teach him how to turn, and Desmond Richardson performed at his 30th anniversary celebration.

His personal life makes him a difficult figure to understand, but I still admire the dedication he put into dance. As a famous singer, he didn't have to work that hard to get audiences' attention.

Share your thoughts on MJ below! I'd love to hear from you.

Harlem just can't stop loving Michael Jackson.
The Apollo Theater is giving the late King o Pop a spot in its "Legends Hall of Fame," the theater's highest honor.
The famed theater on 125th Street said today that it will posthumously induct Jackson next spring at a gala benefit.
Previous Apollo inductees include James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald and Gladys Knight and the Pips.

Jackson will also have a plaque on the Apollo's Walk of Fame, which is set for construction this fall.
Ongoing Jackson honors include plans to archive the "Tribute Wall," a 100-foot long blue plywood wall adjacent to the theater that has served as an ongoing memorial for Michael Jackson fans since news of his death broke on June 25th.
"Inducting Michael into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame and donating the Tribute Wall to the Apollo Theater Archives will immortalize his bond to the Apollo forever," said Apollo Theater President and CEO Jonelle Procope.
Jackson and his brothers first performed at the Harlem theater in the late 1960s. The Jackson Five won its famed "Amateur Night," which catapulted their career.

So, I suppose this is in exchange for being on The View....? Just watch Barbara hammer away when she touches on the topic of drugs. I really don't see why LaToya needs to be doing this right now, how many interviews will this make? why not come together and all do a sit down interview all at once and get it over with?

And to talk about her impression of Michaels children is also very unnecessecary and clearly not what Michael would have wanted. They need some peace and quiet.

'Thriller' co-star becomes Jackson creditor
(AP)

LOS ANGELES — Court records show Michael Jackson's love interest in the "Thriller" video, Ola Ray, is now a creditor to the King of Pop's estate.

Ray's attorney filed paperwork in Los Angeles last week stating she is a creditor to the singer's estate and is owed an undetermined amount of money.

The actress sued Jackson in April, claiming he had failed to pay her royalties that she was due from the "Thriller" video for the past four years.

That suit, and two others filed by "Thriller" director John Landis, remain unresolved. One of Landis' lawsuits claimed he also hadn't been paid royalties on the "Thriller" video for several years.

A&E confirms Jacksons special will become a series
By FRAZIER MOORE (AP)

NEW YORK — The A&E network said Tuesday its previously announced documentary about members of the Jackson family will be expanded into a reality series.

A&E's official word came only after "Entertainment Tonight" declared the Jackson series was a go.

But beyond acknowledging its plans for a series, A&E furnished no details. No premiere date or number of episodes has been specified.

The original special, which the cable channel announced last May, focuses on brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon Jackson as they prepare to reunite for a concert tour.

Initial filming wrapped in June before the death of Michael Jackson, but he didn't participate in the production, said network spokesman Dan Silberman.

"ET" aired footage from the special on its Tuesday edition.

Billed as "exclusive new video," the three-minute clip showed family matriarch Katherine Jackson as well as her sons Jermaine, Jackie and Tito, at home, relaxing and chatting. Correspondent Kevin Frazier told viewers the project included "the entire Jackson clan," adding, "sources tell us that Michael also participated in the filming."

"ET" did not say how it got the video, but promised to air more on Wednesday's edition.

"The footage was leaked without A&E's knowledge or consent," said network spokesman Dan Silberman.
I saws the leaked clip (couldn't find it any place online though) and I'm lookin' forward to it. :)

Ms. Katherine was sitting at a table outside near a Bar-b-que grill with two grandsons who looked to be in their late teens chit-chatting (one had a mohawk). One of the youngins asked her a question and said Huh Grandma? (I was on the phone) and she answered him yes and I think she said, it's been a long time. She looked great as usual, and with no makeup, and seemed to be just chillaxin'. (not sure when it was taped).

Then there was a scene with Jackie, Jermaine and Tito, talking about performing together again. Jackie said he could not deal with a lot of conflicts, then one of them said who's gonna sing lead and Jermaine said I am, on all the songs (with a big grin on his face). Then Tito said it's Tito Time and they all chuckled.
