i've never come across female blues musicians before..

my favourite part of the blues is the folksy fiddle. but it was kind of deserted after the ~40s i guess, so i find it hard to lookout for it in contemporary recordings. i haven't delved much into the genre (i'm more into the sound than the message), but so far my ultimate blues tune:

John's not an original "bluesman" but he's a helluva guitar player for blues music. And blues players like Buddy Guy are what attracted him to the music business. These guys you just cannot compare. But Buddy respects the hell out of Mayer because of how he plays and Mayer's respect for bluesmanship.

actually i've never listened to traditional Afro-American blues before and most of the music above is something new to me. funny that the first thing that came to my mind when i saw this thread's title was Eric Clapton's acoustic album Unplugged. which is btw among my all time favourites.

ahh'll correct that: i hardly ever come across female blues musicians lol i actually know of Big Mama only because of Hound Dog; it was like my first piece of pop music i was taught, lol.
 
That John Legend song sounds more like some James Taylor type of music, not blues.

This song is from 1930. It's called "Stinging Snake Blues" by Madelyn James
