Taj on Twitter : “I was there when MTV was on the phone begging my uncle Michael to make an appearance cause their ratings were down.”Michael’s nephew Taj Jackson, son of Michael’s brother Tito, discussed some memories about MTV on Twitter. While tweeting about how MTV removed Michael’s name from the lifetime award and how they begged him to make an appearance, MTV responded immediately. This is the full transcript:

“It’s hard to watch the VMAs because every time I watch it, I think about 3T being there. No one rocked the VMA’s like my uncle Michael did. I am still upset at them for not mentioning his name on the Video Vanguard awards anymore. The lifetime award, they removed his name”

“I was there when MTV was on the phone begging my uncle Michael to make an appearance cause their ratings were down. Funny how easy they forget.”

“They didn’t mention his name the last 2x they gave it out. My comments were about MTV America. I think the MTVs overseas are way better, are they?”

MTV responded immediately at the discussion that arose on Twitter between Taj and Jackson fans. Via @MTV they tweeded: “Hey MJ fans, we hear you loud & clear. I’m hearing we don’t do it every year, just when ppl deserve the recognition. Will look into it.”
 
Taj is a very good person. Like uncle like nephew. Ihave so much respect for him. He's one of the few genuine people.
 
I never knew his name was taken off the award. I find that so sad :( :no:
 
Let's hope they rectify this.
It was an insult to MJ when he was alive for them to stop mentioning his name.
 
I wonder what year they 'begged' him to appear.
They did the same with Janet. Blacklisted her cause of the superbowl, but were more than happy to have her on in 09 for the tribute.
Anyway, I suppose this is business. Lets hope they rename it again to include MJs name.
 
i dont even know what the stupid vmas were about, eff mtv big time, ive always hated them since 2002

i knew it. this is just one of many underhanded things the american music media and industry did to Michael. when i used to talk about it, other fans thought i was crazy. they didn't believe this stuff was happening. between this, and rearranging the american charts, to reflect airplay instead of sales, because Michael was selling so well. i got a million stories. true stories. they were Michael proofing the industry, in america, out of jealousy of him. them, and sony, in later years. that's the conspiracy Michael was talking about, only in part.

the fact is, mtv invented the 'video vanguard award' because of Michael Jackson, and they originally named it after him. then, they decided to remove his name, as part of the beginning of their rediculing of him, though they needed him for ratings. then, they made up the millenium award, for him, then took that back. and the lifetime achievment award, and took that back. then they pretended like they were just giving him a birthday cake, when asked to explain it, by fans.

MTV Sucks..that is terrible they took his name off the award..I did not know that. He is an Icon..he made MTV what it is today..THEY have some nerve doing that to a legend. They will get there's in the end, That s why they are talking about going from video channel to reality channel...Michael is not here to boost there ratings anymore...THEY are the losers.
 
Its a serious wrong that needs to be righted. Michael deserves to have that award named after him and it should be put back. Taking his name off is so disprespectful.

i can't make threads on things that cause that kind of controversy. too many people are verbal vigilanties on one side or the other, because some think it's too fantastic to believe. if Taj didn't say what he said, no one would believe that, either.
 
Glad Taj spoke openly about what they did.

I lol'd when he mentioned the begging part. It further shows how MTV was so willing to do/say anything for publicity & ratings.

...only to go and backstab Michael in return (Millenium award, anyone?), of course.
 
I dont see the point in MTV anymore there is no Music on that channel and its pointless to have a VMA's for a Music channel that dont play music anymore.
 
That's terrible they did that and the other things to Michael. I am glad his nephew brought this up. The media etc expect his family and fans to forget how badly Michael was treated. We will never forget that. All the tributes are now are a little too late when they were ignoring him for years.

I never knew they took his name off the award, how horrible. Thanks to Taj for bringing this up. I hope MTV does the right thing.
 
Sounds like MTV is/was trying to change MJ's history. We can't let that happen...
 
Wait is Taj referring to the award mix up in 2002 when Britney presented and they had a cake and stuff or is this another year?

true enough! i don't their purpose now given even lesser music videos played on their channel. they are the big factor which helps further bringing down the music industry.

i thank taj for bringing this up. wonder too if he is referring to that 2002 thing...hmmm....
 
That is just like that ICON mess. yes, I love Janet but to give it to her and not Michael first and others before her makes that award worthless.
 
wow they took MJ's name of the award, thats so typical of MTV bleed them dry and then just like that disown them.
I never watch the VMA's anymore, they are just crap now, I only watched it last year to see Janet's MJ tribute and the This Is It preview which they left right until the end :mat:

I'm a big Janet fan, and even I agree with that, although Janet deserved it Michael should have got it first !!
