Super Moon WoW's The World, May 6, 2012

Supermoons occur when the moon's closest approach to the Earth, known as perigee, coincides with a full moon. The perigee and the full moon occured within a minute of each other Saturday night and the moon seemed as much as 14 per cent bigger and 30 per cent brighter than other full moons this year, NASA said.

In this image, the full moon rises behind a mosque as a kite flies in Amman.

Thank you so much for this beautiful thread. I really enjoyed looking at all the photos. Its amazing how everyone in the world shares the same moon and sky!!! :)

I saw the moon this past Sunday night at my kitchen window. It was such an amazing site to see. Especially with me since my one major passion is astronomy. I should have taken some pictures of it. But I decided not to.

Wow, thanks for the photos. Some of them are really amazing.

I saw the supermoon but I don't know if it wasn't as powerful up here but it wasn't so extraordinary as I thought it would be.

There's another super moon happening this weekend, Sunday June 23rd 2013. :nerd::photoflash:

The biggest, brightest full moon of the year shines in the sky this weekend, which makes this the perfect time to take in the wonders of the night sky — whether or not you're swept up in the "supermoon" hype. Some say the supermoon ranks as "one of the biggest celestial events of the year." Meanwhile, Bad Astronomy's Phil Plait says it's no big deal, and that "you'd never notice the difference" between this full moon and any other. The true message of the supermoon lies in a happy medium: It's not a monstrous moon, but it's a great excuse to moon over a monthly sight that we sometimes take for granted.
