Announcement video was just released:

They shot some scenes September last year. Most likely the one we see in the video. The full production officially began this month.

The Official Title for Star Wars: Episode VIII Revealed – Exclusive

Announcing the name of the next film in the Skywalker saga.

We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.

THE LAST JEDI is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.

I like the title and that red logo looks awesome.

Trailer

The poster they showed during the Star Wars Celebration panel looked really good. I like the retro feel. A lot better than TFA posters.

I think that the girl who has the role of Rey,Daisy Ridley is going to to take on the role of Lara Croft in the upcoming “Tomb Raider” reboot

J.J. Abrams will be directing Episode 9:

He will also co-write the film with Chris Terrio. I'm ok with this but they could have chosen someone new. I liked that there was supposed to be a different director for every movie like in the original trilogy. Each movie felt different. The Force Awakens was a good movie but too safe. Also it's not as memorable as other Star Wars movies in my opinion. I glad that Colin Trevorror won't be directing.

Oh dear. I couldn't stand the last one he did.

Munch, munch, munch!

In case you haven't noticed this pattern, Lucasfilm hasn't been getting along with their director's as of late. Are you really surprised by this choice?

I'm very happy with the JJ Abrams choice. He has been open to the criticisms that he has received for the mistakes he made on TFA. Because The Force Awakens was still a superb film and along his openness to feedback, I look forward to his work on Episode 9!

I go to see this next Wednesday. Can't wait! I'm excited to see Luke again.

Training featurette:

Im going to have to watch a recap of the last one before watching this. With the Star Wars series the way things tie in, I like to remember more than less..

I have just seen it today with some friends and I have to say I really enjoyed it. IMO its better than prequels, The Force Awakens and Rogue One. However, The Empire Strikes Back is still the best of the series. There is alot of action, everyone gets to shine and I liked the new editions to the cast eg. Rose. Plus I really, really want a Porg cause they are sooooo cute nod I give The Last Jedi (2017) a 4.5 out of (y)

Spoilers!

I saw it yesterday. It was ok. I really wanted to like it more. There were many things I didn't like storywise and many pointless things. It was well made but I have really mixed feelings. Luke was the best part of the movie. I would give both this and The Force Awakens 3/5.

those who've seen it, overall happy with the result?

Saw it on Christmas Eve. I liked it, although I think it was a bit weaker than Force Awakens. There were cool moments but also things that could've been done a bit better. I'll admit I'm not quite as hyped for Episode 9 as I was for this one, but here's hoping that one pulls out all the stops.

Great review:

I'm looking forward to Han Solo movie more than Episode 9 right now. I didn't expect to say that before seeing this movie. It was very mediocre. I really wanted to like this. I'm starting to see the prequels in more favorable light.

Also it sounds like Mark Hamill isn't very happy how Luke was in the movie:

Was hardly mediocre and my views on the prequels are still the same. I can’t watch PHANTOM MENACE or ATTACK OF THE CLONES anymore and I have very little hype for the Han Solo film. Also you’re slow on Mark’s comments since you never saw he said this https://twitter.com/hamillhimself/status/945784443964309505

I know what Hamill said but it is still clear that he didn't like the way Luke was in the movie. He thinks the movie is great but didn't like Luke's part. He was a true professional and did his job. I'm sure Disney told him to stop saying things like that. I just wish they would have made the movie in a way that both Rian Johnsson and Hamill would have liked it. Hamill says in that interview that he still hasn't accepted it completely.
