Ew, illegal hacking. It's pretty stalkery. We ought to support its prosecution and sign this petition.

Your pictures are encouraging. We should host a tabloid burning. With s'mores. =)

^^ Thank you!!! :cheeky:

Also, I made a point to put in the comment box when signing the petition that I was doing it in honor of Michael Jackson as well as for ALL of the others who have been hurt by filthy tabloid press.

i back this fully. BUT, is it really anything to do with Michael? Did he even own a mobile phone and is their any evidence to prove he was hacked? I'm not saying this is right, its not, the press deserve to suffer, and suffer a lot, for the way they go about their "business". But, it seems we as a fan base are trying to find ways to make everything about Michael some how or another and its getting a bit ridiculous.
I know Michael protested hard against the media, i was there, and i also know that, were Michael still with us, he would probably be on this too. But then again, he may not have been. I signed the petition before coming here, as to me, it is definitely something that needs doing. But not just for Michael. He ain't the only person negatively affected by the press.

its to do with the tabloid medias actions in general and asking for a public enquiry in to how it even got to a situation where they felt they could do this.it has nothing to do with mj being hacked.no one ever suggested he was.but of course as mj fans there is a connection due to the way he was persecuted by the press even more so when its the notw paper.so why wouldnt mj fans feel a connection to this interms of how mj was treated its an mj message board! Fans of other celebs who have issues with the tabloids are no doubt supporting this aswell.

'Hacked off' celebrities lead war on British tabloids

LONDON (AFP) – It took the hacking of a murdered girl's phone to make the News of the World scandal explode, but British celebrities have wasted no time in using the row to press their own agenda against the tabloids.

Actor Hugh Grant has led the charge by becoming an investigative reporter himself for a day -- one newspaper joked that it was his best role yet -- and taping a former News of the World journalist saying the practice was widespread.

The recent launch of a "Hacked Off" campaign calling for greater press regulation meanwhile attracted figures including socialite Jemima Khan and former world motorsport chief Max Mosley, himself the victim of a tabloid sting.

Grant "has been eloquent, he has been able to talk about it in such a way that people have been interested and taken notice," Martin Moore, director of the Media Standards Trust and coordinator of the Hacked Off group, told AFP.

The petition now has more than 8,300 signatures.

Yet there was little real outcry in Britain about phone hacking until July 4 when it was reported that Rupert Murdoch's News of the World had hacked and deleted the messages of Milly Dowler, a murdered 13-year-old schoolgirl.

The paper has since shut down.

Before that, the jailing of two people in 2007 over the hacking of British royals, and various lawsuits by celebrities including British actors Jude Law and Sienna Miller, attracted relatively little interest from the public.

"Their attitude is, 'Max Clifford and Sienna Miller use the media and do very well from it, so I won't lose too much sleep over it,'" publicist Max Clifford told the BBC.
Since the Dowler hacking emerged, however, showbiz figures have found the scandal a useful stick with which to beat their tabloid foes.

Grant, who starred in the 1994 film "Four Weddings and a Funeral", has toured the TV studios in the past fortnight telling how he secretly recorded a conversation with Paul McMullan, a former News of the World journalist.

During the encounter -- which Grant wrote about in the New Statesman magazine in April with relatively little fanfare -- he said McMullan admitted "industrial scale phone-hacking" at the paper.

On talk shows Grant has since had colourful exchanges with McMullen and other journalists, at one point denying he was bitter about the press after the coverage he received during his 1995 arrest with a Hollywood prostitute.

"If you don't want to get in the paper keep it in your trousers," said John Gaunt, a British radio talk show presenter, referring to the incident.

"Cheap and pathetic," Grant replied.

Another vocal celebrity has been comedian Steve Coogan, who plays the inept chat-show host Alan Partridge on television and has starred in Hollywood movies including "Around the World in 80 Days."

A victim of phone hacking himself, he also appeared on a television panel show with McMullan, angrily accusing him of being "morally bankrupt".

McMullan hit back by noting that Coogan had received money for appearing in films including "Night at the Museum" made by 20th Century Fox, owned by Murdoch's News Corp.

Meanwhile Khan, who is Grant's former girlfriend, wrote a lengthy account in The Independent newspaper describing the "long, painful process of trying to find out the truth" about how she was hacked.

"The press, police and Parliament have all colluded on the issue of phone hacking," Khan wrote.

Moore, of the Hacked Off campaign, says he wants "transparency" in the press and a change in the culture of tabloid newsrooms to one that "doesn't encourage hacking."

Meanwhile new celebrity lawsuits are coming in. Jude Law on Friday sued The Sun, what is thought to be the first such legal action against Rupert Murdoch's best-selling daily tabloid.

EXACTLY. I am surprised that this connection is not apparent to all Michae's fans. If there was one person who was mistreated by the media in unjust ways, it was Michael Jackson, and I applaud the original poster for seeing this glaring connection.

I heard about this on the London TV when I was on vacation a few weeks back, so now that I am back home, I am glad we are doing something about it.

And i agree with u. I just feel its something ppl should have already done off their own backs, without coming here and seeing everyone else is doing it to. I'm sorry if i sound a little harsh here, but i would bet good maney that a lot of the fans who have signed it wouldn't have had they not seen the link here. Where as i feel its a important issue that shouldn't just be about Michael. Yes, he was treated badly and a lot of us feel he deserves some kind of retribution for that. But this just screams of another Justice(revenge) for MJ thing. Michael will never get the apology he so rightly deserves as the main culprits, Bashir, NOTW and so on, don't feel they have anything to apologise for =(

theres a thread about the notw in the non mj discussion section and seeing as many members on thid board arent from the uk i doubt they would have known about the campaign if it wasnt for seeing it on here

Absolutely support the signing. And off topic or not as much as I deplore the phone hacking into bereaved relatives phones and a missing person, I am so happy to see Murdoch getting a taste of his own medicine, now it is his turn to be outed, and unlike his trashy 'news' stories this one is true! I hope it is the beginning of the end, and I hope Michael is up there smiling over it as well.

Fuuny aswell how the notw had been making loads of out of court settlements when they got sued by ex staff and celebs. And they were trying to justify it.yet spent years accusing mj over it.talk about throwing stones to hide your hands

Truth vs. “moral” idea regarding Michael Jackson

“For better or worse, my company is a reflection of my character, my thinking, my values” – Rupert Murdoch.

In application to Michael Jackson it means that if Rupert Murdoch doesn’t like him, the whole of his press automatically does not like him either. This does explain why lots of British newspapers came out with the same negative story about Michael Jackson whenever there was an opportunity to do so, doesn’t it?

Vindicating Michael
