MJFanvention2011 features tours, dance party, birthday cake display, and special guests

Since Michael Jackson's death in June 2009, many tributes have been held around the world in his honor. Most were solemn, mournful occasions where fans gathered to remember the King of Pop. But during the weekend of August 26 - 28 fans will gather near Gary, IN and Chicago for the Annual MJFanvention2011 featuring special guests and personal friends who spent time with MJ, entertainment, tributes, and a birthday celebration dance with fireworks.
The birthday celebration event, which runs from August 26 – 28 is the celebration of the music, unique talent and humanity of Michael Jackson whose birthday is August 29.
Fanvention is a combination of the words “fan” and “convention”. It's goal is to gather Jackson fans from around the country in a weekend-long celebration. The event will take place at the Inn of Chicago, one of Chicago's premier boutique hotels on Chicago's famous Magnificent Mile. The weekend will also feature tours to Jackson's home in Gary, IN -- only 35 miles from Chicago. The tour will also include venues where Jackson and his brothers performed in the Chicago area.
A Revealing Weekend
Jackson, a native of Gary, IN, developed his talent with his brothers in their home at 2300 Jackson Street and toured throughout Northwest Indiana and Chicago as they developed their performance skills before leaving for California and the incubator of Motown Records.
"I don't think people know how much the venues in the Chicago area contributed to the development of his talent," said Karen Williams, producer of the MJFanvention2011. "Michael and his brothers performed in night clubs throughout Chicago's Southside with some very seasoned, professional singers. They learned a lot while singing to a very adult audience."
The participants will also learn about Jackson's private battles and his life on Neverland Ranch.
Guests include Geraldine Hughes, an author and former legal secretary to Attorney Barry Rothman. Rothman was the attorney for Evan Chandler who accused Jackson in 1993 of child molestation. She will share her account of the events surrounding the trial. Other guests include Jackson's personal videographer Larry Nimmer who will show never-before-seen footage of Jackson in Neverland. Chicago Attorney Ray Waters will discuss the role of estate attorneys in the life and death of entertainers and why Jackson has earned more money dead than alive.
The weekend birthday celebration will feature other special guests and personal friends who spent time with Jackson and his family. Attendees should also anticipate an exciting weekend including a celebration hosted in the Lakeview Terrace Room at of one the city’s most vibrant destinations —Navy Pier. The party is set to take place Saturday, August 27 and culminates in a firework display. Guests are encouraged to come outfitted in MJ-themed attire to enjoy the night’s festivities.
Environmental focus
The MJFanvention2011 has also teamed up with environmentally-focused companies, Whole Foods Market and A Million Trees for Michael to present the 2011 celebration. Through his song Earth Song and charitable giving, Jackson displayed an appreciation of the environment. Staying green-minded, this year’s event will be paying special homage to the entertainer's lifelong commitment to the environment with help from its eco-friendly partners.
