Hi everyone!
My dentist wants me to go to an oral surgeon to have my wisdom teeth looked at. The dentist thinks all four will come in at an angle and mess up the teeth next to them.
I hate going to the dentist to begin with. They scrape your teeth with a sharp needle like instrument hitting the gums and making them bleed, they give you shots in the gum to numb the pain of filling a cavity, etc.
Well, after seeing what happened to Michael and reading about diprivan, it's used by dentists during surgeries, I'm scared they'll try to use it on me.
I'll kill them before they get near me with an IV of that sh*t.
Do you think I'm worried for nothing?

Ok, first off...breaaaaaaaaaaathe, relax.... :)
I am terrified of dentists but I had to have all four of my wisdoms removed surgically, because I waited so long and they became impacted into my other teeth. My mother in law took off work and walked me in and everything - because I didn't want to go.
I know this whole thing with general antisthetic and Michael has you scared but if you have all four taken out at once - trust me, you don't want to be awake for it. Depending on the situation they may have to break the teeth and then pull them out in pieces - you want to be out.
Any dentist will have a nurse there as well for this sort of thing. It will not be like what happened to Michael. These people will be competant and you will be in a dentist office where they ARE allowed to use it and have for years. It really isnt the same thing. They are very careful with it.
You really should be more worried about getting them out. If you wait too long it causes all sorts of bad problems. I wish I had gone sooner.

PM me anytime if you get nervous before going, I'll cheer ya up :D

Good luck and get it taken care of!

Well there are other drugs they can use. I will not sign permission for the use of this crap. I don't care how *safe* it would be since I'm in a dentist's office. God could be standing at my feet and I'd still tell them to shove it.
Maybe I'm crazy.

You really should go i went 4 year without going and my teeth got in such bad condition that i ended up in so much pain i regret not brushing them every day when i look at my mum it make me think and want to go but next week i have an appointment to get 3 teeth taken out :(

but look after your teeth, theyre important :)

I had my wisdom teeth taken out a few years ago. I was asleep during the procedure, and it wasn't a big deal. I don't know what drug they used.

Honestly, I don't think you should be too worried about the anesthesia. Anesthesia is administered safely all the time for medical procedures. It's my understanding that there is an inherent risk associated with the use of any anesthesia.

If you're concerned, you should talk to the oral surgeon about the risks associated with the anesthesia that they'll use. But, I wouldn't be concerned because of what happened to Michael. His doctor was extremely irresponsible.

I have been to the dentist for so many different reasons that I seriously considered going in to Dentistry for my schooling.

I had braces for 5 years. Before I could have the braces I had to have 5 cavities filled, 7 teeth pulled out, and spacers.

When they pulled my teeth out I was obviously put to sleep. They told me to count to 10 and I was going to feel a sharp stinging in my arm and then I would fall asleep. I remember counting getting to 2 and feeling the sharp sting, and then making it to 3 before I was out.

I have also had to have a root canal. I had an infection in a tooth which they did not know was an infection at the time, they just thought it was a very, very bad cavity. They gave me literally 12 numbing shots and none of them worked. I went through the entire root canal with no numbing because they had already started and could not stop. I cried and screamed through the entire thing. But now the tooth feels much better. I even chipped the entire back of it off (it is a molar) and didn't feel a thing! LOL

I have been through all of that and I still don't think the dentist is anything scary. They are doing us a great service because let me tell you, a tooth ache hurts much more than a shot does. LOL

awwww..no worries..I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at once they were impacted had to be put under...I have had 4 stomach procedures in the last 9 years again put under. This mediciane is completely safe. As a matter of fact have to have esophagus stretched in august which means more diprivan. It will be ok dont let what happened effect your judgment. People use it every day under the correct supervision you will be fine...:)

Don't worry because dentists are cool:)
You don't have to be scary for someone who likes to help your teeth so you can SMILE and what did Michael say in his song: Life is still worthwhile if you just smile. You can't smile with rotten teeth, so go to him/her and tell the dentist you want to smile in the future.
Teeth are very important in your life, the first impression will always be better if you have healthy teeth.
You can use a 'drug' so you don't feel the pain, but don't chew on your cheek afterwards, because when the pain is gone, you will have a big spot inside your cheek and it will hurt like hell.

I symphatize with you as I'm scared of the dentist too. I've never had a wisdom tooth out or needed surgery yet. However, I've had my share of dental issues and will probably need to make another visit in the not so distant future. I loath going to the dentist. However, it can't be avoided indefinetely, so I agree with everyone else here: go and have no fear. I know, easier said than done but best of luck, it'll go smoothly! :)

You don't necessarily have to have all four taken out at once. When I had mine removed I scheduled two appointments, a couple of weeks apart, and had two from one side taken out the first time, and then the other two the next time. That way, I was still able to chew on one side of my mouth while the other side was swollen. I also got a local anesthetic, so I wasn't "knocked out," but I didn't feel anything either--and this was with an incision in my gums, the teeth being broken apart and then removed.

i almost puke ( and sometimes do ) before i go to the dentist even just for a checkup .

I hate going to a dentist. It's like a nighmare whenn he is over my mount and he can broke my jaw....

At least I'm not the only one.
I just really don't want that diprovan crap used on me. Since I know both name it goes by, they can't fool me.
I don't really wanna be knocked out anyways. That scares me too. I know their not gonna molest me or anything, it still just weirds me out though.

I feel you on the dentist thing. One of my earliest memories was getting three teeth extracted as a young age, and although I go regularly, I still am nervous with every check-up.

And actually, I had my wisdom teeth removed (all four, non-impacted at once) earlier this year. I'd been delaying it since I was a teenager, but since food was getting trapped back there, I decided it was best to take them out then than later.

I chose the nitrous oxide option, which I recommend if you don't have to have deep surgery done. It makes you so mellow and carefree. The whole time the dental assistant was telling me stories and jokes and I can remember chuckling and laughing, but couldn't even remember what they actually were. I also remember a song coming on the radio and confirming to the dentist that it was a Barry White song. Hahaha! I even had a countdown going as every tooth was removed and stitch put in. I in my normal anxious state couldn't ever have been so playful.

The worst part afterwards was the bleeding (I changed so many pillow cases from blood dripping from my mouth during sleep). The pain wasn't intense at all afterwards, however, I know that some people have a hard time with this. Also, in my recovery, those darn holes from where the teeth were drove me insane. For months I'd get little pieces of food trapped back there. very annoying.

But just get it done. The sooner you do it the quicker you'll be healing. Just don't get it done around a major holiday. You will want to eat and this won't let you.

Best to you!

Also, I recommend you going for all four at once. You don't want to keep going through the same anxiety and fear, do you? There actually is a nurse I know who got hers out one at a time, because she was afraid of potential complications and now in hindsight regrets putting herself through all that torture.
