A village in the Ukraine has petitioned its regional parliament to be renamed in honour of Michael Jackson.
Will anyone who wants a name change please raise their hands: Ukranian village want to change its name in honour of Michael Jackson
Residents of a Ukrainian village of Oktyabrskoye, which is located in the Zaporizhia region in South East Ukraine, have approached local lawmaker Oleg Kislitsyn to rename it ‘Jackson’ after the late pop superstar.
Mr Kislitsyn said: ‘There are many fans of Michael Jackson there. They want to immortalize him,' said Kislitsyn, adding that he was in favour of the proposal.
‘They want to create a house-museum and collect his records there.
As Mail on Sunday Travel Edior Frank Barrett said in a recent blog for TravelMail, popstars are a much more lucrative proposition in death than they are in life - for the travel industry at least.
Elvis's hometown of Memphis only became a tourist mecca after the rock-star died and the Beatles have had a similar effect on Liverpool since John Lennon's death.
Mr Kislitsyn added: 'This is a depressed region, all the factories are closed. They hope this will attract tourists.’
