Remixing - hints to how to do a mix?

I did a few remix attempts back in the past, but due to limited time I didn't come that far yet. For example, if I need to create a loop or adjust the velocity of different tracks it takes me quite long.

Does anybody have experience and give me some hints how or where I can learn to get better?

When I make remixes, I just play around with different ideas and when I come up with something good I keep it in. I usually start out by making the drum beat, then the bassline, then build it from there.
