Rare footage of the Jackson 5

Wow, thank you! Seeing how much madness little Michael already had to endure really gets to me somehow.

I have some of this footage on a video that shows their TV appearances. I bought the video in Harlem, New York. I wish I could make copies and give to fans, because it shows many early appearances on the Ed Sullivan show. Also there is footage of them in the car, backstage, and the fans running. Can you imagine the other footage Michael has in his library--makes me salivate.

I have some of this footage on VHS as well. I think it is on Michael Jackson The Legend Continues.

In light of Halima's tweet, I see a trend developing ....

yeah this really is great footage...I also like seeing when Michael was little...:)

Love this... I don't think there's a Jackson 5 video out there I haven't seen... Makes me depart in a way and stop time when watching him at that time, it feels safe in a way, even though he went through hell not being able to experience his childhood by playing with other kids outside his siblings and the like.. But I draw comfort from the oldies, the hell that was the music industry wasn't half as bad and terrible as it is now, and it Was bad those times..... There were so many talented artists back in the day, that one being inspired by something like that is really good. Now... who's left to be inspired by, outside Stevie Wonder and other older artists who stand No chance before a market filled with young, slightly talented children/young adults. It is a very downward direction, very very downward.. to be fascinated with youth like that they you're taking from their childhood and 'implant' your horrible crap to their heads so they can follow you and make you feel that you're nothing without them unless you're doing what they tell you. And Michael felt this Even from that time, that they told him to sing a certain way, for instance, and he felt he had no real control over his career up until "Destiny"... but he'd agree that it's much, much worse these days, when you're only a puppet of the mainstream vibes if you're venturing to Hollywood and get under the controlling umbrellas of record companies like Sony Music. At least the way Michael and some other artists were asked to sing back then was Really nice-sounding, really beautiful. Which it's not happening, not anymore, when mostly robot noises can be heard on the radio/the TV. Just inhumane-sounding/behaving people..

You just reminded me that i have that, i have some many things on video but i can't bear to watch them beacuse it'll bring back memories about how i felt watching them at the time. I remember always feeling so happy we still had Michael with us and believing him when he said the best was to come...

I recognize this feeling exactly. I still have trouble listening to Earth Song because I watched that video just a day before Michael died :(

Perhaps you should think about what Michael Jackson was really tellling us:

Don't fear the afterlife. "The best is yet to come."

yeah its from that. i have it in a box set with the making of thriller

The nice thing about the old footage is that he looks so happy performing with his brothers. They seem like a happy cohesive unit. It is sad to see how things turned out lately.

Did you guys see the footage of him on the Diana Ross Special, where they were trying to out-sing and out-dance each other. There is a point when little Michael looks up at her with his big laughing eyes--priceless.

Yes, he himself admitted that - although he didn't have a normal, real childhood, his times on the road with his brothers were fun and they were, as you said, Petrarose, a cohesive group. ... Very very unfortunate how things would later turn out, but am still keeping Jackie in a higher esteem, for he is a very nice person..

Michael seemed so happy in those days..

Yes, of course he had his problems with pa pa Joe, but you could see the love and happiness in the group. Those were the days before the media used him as a whipping boy. SIGH.

Another interesting thing about the early footage is that I saw him jerk his head back when he was about 9. It is so wonderful to see him do tiny aspects of the moves that he later expanded on and made famous. It is like finding little treasures.
