If you have a program on another computer but you don't have a disk to put it on another computer how do you get that program from one computer to another?

I'm betting someone can answer this better than me but I'll tell you what I've done before. I have a few really nice graphics/photo editing programs and when I first bought them online they give you a file with the install file etc right? When I got ready to come out to Australia I really wanted one program in particular so I .zip filed a copy of the folder of it from Windows and burned it to disk, then opened it when I got here, put it on my desktop and then ran the install here.
I have no idea if this will help you at all, there are some really good computer smart folks on this board so hopefully someone else can give a try at explaining better
