Prince Michael Jackson has a driver's license, girlfriend and ambition to start a career
He will guest star on the CW network's teen drama "90210"
He turned 16 this month
Aunt La Toya Jackson represents her brother's oldest son in show biz

Los Angeles (CNN) -- As Michael Jackson's three children stood onstage at the end of their father's memorial in July 2009, many wondered how Prince, Paris and Blanket would adapt to the world their father had always shielded them from.

The late pop icon's oldest son turned 16 this month, and his birthday wish shed light on what his future may hold.

Prince Michael Jackson has a driver's license, a girlfriend and ambition to start a career in the entertainment industry.

"I'm looking to become well-rounded as a producer, director, screenwriter and actor," Prince told Entertainment Tonight reporter Brooke Anderson last week.

His interview was part of his first big job, as a special guest correspondent for the show. Prince's assignment was interviewing James Franco, Zach Braff and Sam Raimi about their movie "Oz the Great and Powerful."

He begins his second job this week, a guest star role on the CW Television Network's teen drama "90210."

While many parents encourage their 16-year-olds to get a job to supply their own pocket money, Prince gets an allowance from his father's estate, large by any teenager's standards. It will progressively grow as he gets older, eventually at least 20% of the fortune being managed by the executors his father's estate.

But Prince has told family and friends that he wants to stand on his own, and not in the shadow of his superstar dad. Being a rising star in perhaps the world's most famous show biz family, he has plenty of relatives to call on for help and advice.

Aunt La Toya Jackson agreed to help her nephew. Her company Ja-Tail Enterprises, based in a sprawling office in Beverly Hills, California, is representing him, booking his interviews and jobs, according to a source in the company who's close to him.

It's what Prince Jackson asked for as a birthday present, the source said.

Some journalists and fans reacted negatively to word that he was entering the work world, suggesting that his father would never have approved. Several sources close to the Jackson family agree that it would not be happening if Michael Jackson were still alive.

Remaining sheltered behind the gates of his father's mansions and the masks he wore in public as a child was no longer an option after Jackson's death from a surgical anesthetic overdose nearly four years ago.

The children are living with their grandmother, assisted by cousin T.J. Jackson, in a hilltop mansion in in the same gated Calabasas, California, development that is home to Justin Bieber. Prince and sister Paris, who turns 15 in April, attend a private school. They are both active on Twitter, sharing personal thoughts and photos with the world. People who know them describe them as normal, smart and strong.

An acting role may be more likely for the son of a superstar than a job at a fast-food restaurant, a typical first job for many American teens.

I don't see a fan here telling the kids what to do. Fans and non fans a like are expressing their views, like it or not they can do that

Actually, i see it almost in every topic being said, that this isnt what MJ wanted{kids being in the showbiz/events etc]. Personally, I wouldnt like them to be in it at such a young age [either]. Wasnt't their dad talking about this the rest of his adulthood? Saying he had no childhood? They grow up way too fast these days, in my opinion. And as mature as they may be for kids their age, better to wait until they've seen more and learned more of the world[they're surrounded in], and make a decision.

No matter what any of us think the children will do what they want and they want a career in the entertainment business. I wish them well and will always try and cover their backs.

Great article. Prince is lucky to start his big job at age 16! Why wasn't finding a job easy for me when I was 16?....Prince Jackson, us fans love you!! :D

Children don't make decisions. Usually, they have parents who give consent & let them persue their wishes. Michael's children have a guardian & a co-guardian who probably approve it but children don't make decisions. And the problem is not that they want to go into the bus. but with whom they're dealing. Michael said if his children wanted to get in the bus. he will advise them of all the pros & cons & if they still want it, he will let them do it. The big difference here is that Michael would had his children work with respectable & recognized people & companies, not with the people that LaToya makes business with. I don't want to offend Paris but what had happened with the movie she was going to be in? Nothing. She even went on tv to promoted & nothing has come out of it. All that fiasco only because they got her involved with the wrong people.

Michael's children can accomplish a lot, in the entertainment business & out of it, but they deserve & they need to be connected with respectable people.

The shade. Michael children only lived the normal childhood when they were with their father, the best Michael did under the circumstances. They only wore mask when they were with their father in hollywood where paps lurking around. The Jacksons, their mouthpiece and the media always make it like they lived in some cage and disconnected with the world when they were with Michael. What they lived now is not normal in any sense, full of drama. If Michael was alive, we most likely will only know his children after they accomplish something in their own name.

I agree that fans sometimes act as if they know exactly what Michael would want for them, but in his book remember he says if his children showed an interest in the entertainment industry he would not hold them back, but would inform them of what it is like. Granted his views may have changed after having the kids. The hearts are in the right place I suppose

I do admire that Prince wants to be his own person. I think Michael would want that for him and Paris and Blanket. Michael wanted to be his own person and I can see that for his kids. I think what concerns people is the Latoya factor. Nothing we can do but hope the best for them.

Nothing's wrong with expressing views like this. No one in here knows of anyone who went on to have a legit career that had someone like Latoya in their corner. So what's the surprise in fans expressing some concern? I mean, what are fans supposed to do, suddenly think having vultures in your corner is no big deal?

LaToya, the Jackson's or anyone else will not be able to hold Michael's children back from what they want out of life in the business their father loved. I don't trust LaToya now nor will I ever trust her or any of the other Jackson clan members but I will not stand in the way or object to Michael's children gaining experience in their teens. Michael's kids have proven they are not stupid or unaware of the ways of the Jackson family. Like their father they are brilliant, smart and creative. They will deal with LaToya when the time comes and if need be. Toy will not stop them from becoming big stars.

word!!

PLUS, Michael was 5 when he started (that is kind of soon!), so I don't think 16 is too soon. He had his childhoold, now he is a young man who will soon make his own decisions and if he has a chance to do it then good for him!

It's the person behind helping Prince career that concerns me! Her name being La Toya! And another thing I don't buy for a sec is that any media showing any kind of concern for MJ kids. These bastards the way they treated MJ while he was alive... please they dream of doin the same to his kids. Ya'll just wait, it's just the beginning!

Any member can express their views about this article and topic, pro or con. What they can't do anywhere on MJJC is tell people to shut up, call them pathetic or other names for expressing a view that differ from theirs. So for that reason, posts of that nature and replies to them have been deleted. Please refrain from doing that.
