I noticed this project yesterday as a static set of 'star' portraits made from CDs. However I have now found a video from the same artists, and thought it would be good to share here. Unfortunately I can only add the link, as I'm not sure how to share this video source ( it is not youtube).

Click on the video teaser under the heading 'Piracy' .
This video seems to date from last year, but I don't recall seeing it before.
Apologies if it has already been posted.
(Don't know if this should come with a warning for the the destructive ending...... )

For the inauguration of First Floor Under, a pop-vanguard culture magazine, artists Moreno De Turco and Mirco Pagano spent more than 200 hours lining up the CDs to recreate the portraits of seven world-famous musicians: Bob Marley, Elvis Presley, Jim Morrison, Jimmy Hendrix, Michael Jackson, James Brown, and Freddie Mercury.

The artists said part of their project was to raise awareness of musical piracy.
Pagano said: ‘Piracy infects and destroys music, preventing artists to succeed and become idols as in the past.

Their recognition is at risk. Only original CDs allow us to understand who they are and make them universally recognisable icons. A portrait made of pirate CDs would create a non-artist.’

The pair have been working with US advertising agency TBWA to highlight the effect piracy can have on the industry.
