Obama hears Chinese Band
Play Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson:)

It's not every day you get to hear the military band of the Chinese People's Liberation Army perform the works of Stevie Wonder, Glenn Miller, Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie.

President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, and other select Americans had that chance earlier today during a state dinner in Beijing at the Great Hall of the People.

Under the direction of conductor Zhang Zhirong, the Chinese military band's selections included I Just Called to Say I Love You, Wonder's 1984 hit; In The Mood, popularized in 1939 by big band leader Miller; and We Are The World, the 1985 Jackson-Ritchie collaboration on behalf of African relief.

The set also included America the Beautiful, as well as Chinese runes such as Embroidering A Pouch and In That Faraway Place.

And what what was on the menu, you ask? Read on. Pooler Mike Allen of Politico provides the rundown: Hors d'oeuvres; chicken soup with bean curd; Chinese-style beef steak; stir-fried wild rice stem and asparagus; roast grouper; pastries; fruit ice cream; red and white wine from China.
