Has been a poll for this?

Johnny Cash's video for his Nine Inch Nails cover of 'Hurt' has been named the greatest music video of all time by NME.

The clip came top of 100 classic music videos on NME's newly launched video site NMEvideo.com. The American rock'n'roll and country music legend's 2002 promo finished ahead of Radiohead's 'Just' and Chris Isaak's 'Wicked Game'.

Also in the Top Ten were The Prodigy with 'Smack My Bitch Up', Weezer's 'Buddy Holly' and Foo Fighters's 1997 hit 'Everlong'.

No Michael at all?!!!!!:bugeyed:shmacks

I can't believe it wasn't a Michael video but after all, it is NME.

However, if I don't include Michael, I agree with NME on this one, in April I posted this thread:

Lets put here a collection of the greatest music videos of all time, not including Michael Jackson because if Michael was included no other artist would be in this list :D.

Music videos that make you go "Wow", simple videos with a powerful meaning, videos that have you in tears by the end, whatever you view as one of the greatest music videos of all time (excluding Michael).

I'll start with Hurt by Johnny Cash. It was the last music video before his death in 2003 at the age of 71 and it shows a frail old man looking back on his life wondering was it all worth it.

[WARNING: KEEP TISSUES CLOSE BY]

If NME weren't so biased against Michael we would have seen a real result.

^^^Last year, on vh1, on final countdown the best video of the decade 2000-2010, Hurt was 1 and 2 was Michael with YRMW.

I don't know what to say about this video.I don't like the artist so I can't be objective

But it had a story and was still pioneering for someone who was supposedly passed it.

All the top ten videos suck. The cash video is halfway decent, but still nothing impressive. I think Thriller will always be the best music video. Even if the song itself leaves much to be desired, the video is pure innovation, and was definitely ahead of its time, something which definitely cannot be said of Cash's video.

I love the "Hurt' song. I really love the original version too by Nine Inch Nails. But i can't see this being the best music video of all time, come on now. I know that NME is this rock and ish magazine but give me a break. Even the most snobish ones can be objective. Pff

I think the video "Just" from Radiohead are one of the greatest because it's like MJ's. It's like the story of that video came from a child's mind. But of course, MJ's short films are ten times better.

But yes, there was a poll for this but extremely hidden
Of course, they want no more MJ in the top places, because they have to keep their reputation of being a snobby magazine. pfff!
Nicely done NME

British alt weekly NME has something of a penchant for making essentially meaningless lists which they’ll only mostly disown and revise six months later so paying attention to them is a rather self-destructive endeavour. But that said the mag’s latest list on what they rank as the 100 Greatest Music-Videos of All-Time caught our eyes this week.

As reported by our mates at FasterLouder, the NME’s latest list comes with the launch of NME Video, a new site “dedicated to the best music videos” which we could certainly use now that Video Hits has kicked the bucket and MTV plays more Jersey Shore than music content.

According to the UK rag the best video of like all of forever and stuff is Johnny Cash’s tear-jearking Nine Inch Nails cover, Hurt coming in above lots of Radiohead. And while NME’s list is not without it’s high points like entries from UNKLE, The Prodigy and Daft Punk’s often overlooked Da Funk there are more than a few glaring omissions to grumble over like Aphex Twin’s Windowlicker, Justice’s Stress – clearly superior to Born Free by M.I.A. – and whatever your favourite video from The Chemical Brothers might be. And just where is Michael Jackson’s Thriller? Bah! We’ll take our own Smuttiest Dance Videos Of All Time list, thanks very much!
