Prior to Michael Jackson’s untimely passing last year, the King of Pop had clocked up studio time with the likes of RedOne, will.i.am, and Ne-Yo. For the latter, though, what to do with the material he wrote for Jackson has been weighing on his mind.

In a recent interview, however, he revealed that he wants Janet Jackson and the Jackson 5 to record some of the songs he penned for their late brother.

His comments after the jump…

“I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with those songs. I can’t give them to anybody else because they were written for Michael. That would be disrespectful.

So if I could get Janet and the brothers to do a collaborative tribute, that would be a great idea. There are about 10 he personally selected. He told me, ‘I like this one, this one, this one.’ I can’t just put them out by myself because again they were meant for him but they’re really good songs, it’s good quality music

He could record some of them himself as a tribute to Michael. I don't think that would be disrespectful at all. But good luck to him with whatever he may do with the songs. Asking the brothers and Janet seems like a good idea.

Neyo wrote a song on Janets last album Discipline (rock with u) and it is great, I would like for her or any of the brothers to record them as a tribute to Michael, but as Courtney said he could just record them himself, its not disrespectful at all.

I don't think it is disrespectful either for him to do them as a sort of tribute. but I have to admit I would like to hear what Janet and the Brothers would be able to do with the songs.

I wish I could hear MJ sing them. But they can all sing, they could do them justice in their own way.

Problem solved Ne-Yo, you just said it.......these songs were intended for Michael, so I don't really see the need to have either Janet or the brothers sing these songs. None of them I don't think will even deliver the songs as MJ would've intended so I see no problem in just putting them aside or as he wrote them, he should probably just release them himself.

I doubt Janet would touch those songs they were intended for Michael. Anyway Ne-Yo never said Janet accepted them either. I think he is just trying to get some attention from the media. I would say he is upset that he never got to work on the new MJ album due out in November.

hell no, nobody should sing songs that were meant for him. NO ONE. now that he is gone I dont care about any songs whatsoever sung by other people. Michaels family are NOT him. no one is capable of singing a michael jackson song but Michael Jackson.

Why are people so against this? It'll probably not happen but I'd rather hear michael's siblings sing songs michael wanted but didn't get the chance than them sing one of his songs or Ne-Yo giving them away. I wonder what these songs are about.

I cant understand why people are againist this anyway. I think some MJ fans dont like Janet and that could be part of it.

well who ever knows what the songs would have been like if MJ grinded on them in the studio..since they didn't get that far, it seems that what ne yo does, or what Janet and her producers do, or what ne yo's producers do, or whatever, prorbably makes all the difference in the world...
and MJ taking a lot of time in the studio didn't get a chance to happen...so...as far as the listening ear is concerned, the songs might be considered a janet or J5 type song...if they were to do it. after all..nothing else has been heard.

He shouldn't do them. People here would just accuse him of using Mike for fame and record sales.

why? :bugeyed

I don't think Janet would do them justice to be perfectly honest. I'd much rather see Ne-Yo do them himself as a tribute if anything. He's always clearly adored Michael since he was first famous, so I'm cool with him doing it.

I think you are right with what you are saying

loveee this idea..hope janet does it...love neyo..he penned 4 songs off discipline

Ne-Yo's "plan" sounds good ON PAPER and as a soundbite for the press, but that's where it ends, in my opinion.

I mean, seriously, would Janet Jackson consider singing songs that were "supposed" to be for Michael. Maybe, but I doubt it.

(I say "supposed" to be for Michael, because as far as we know, Michael NEVER took any of Ne-Yo's songs, NEVER worked on any of Ne-Yo's songs, so how can you really call them Michael's songs? Although Ne-Yo sent songs to Michael, Michael never accepted any of the songs, for "whatever" reason, he passed on all of the songs presented to him by Ne-Yo.)

Then the brothers, how would that work out? Would Jermaine take the lead, with the other brothers being regaled to being background singers?

In my opinion, if Ne-Yo wants to work with Janet and/or the remaining J5 members, he should write songs EXCLUSIVE for them. What's wrong with that idea!

I really don't think Ne-Yo meant anything derogatory with what he said...

NeYo was in Brazil yesterday, Saturday and friday. He gave several interviews.

The translation of an article about it:

"Much of the interview was dedicated to the greatest idol of Ne-Yo, Michael Jackson, who died in 2009. "The death of Michael was a very difficult thing for me. I learned everything I know about my work with him," he said. Fanaticism by pop star is so great that the composer wrote a number of songs shortly before Michael's death. The fate of the music is now uncertain. Asked if the tracks would be recorded or transferred to a tribute to the brothers of the singer, Ne-Yo is effusive. "Do not give these songs to anyone. We do not know what I'll do with them, but I know that giving someone else would be disrespectful to Michael," he said."
