Michael Jackson has sold nearly eight million records in the UK since his untimely death on June 2009. Fans have bought 3.8 million albums and four million singles from the star's illustrious back catalogue.

Michael Jackson has sold nearly eight million records posthumously in the UK.
The late King of Pop, who tragically died five years ago today (25.06.14) from a lethal dose of Propofol, continues to be one of the best-selling and enduring artists of all time, according to the Official Charts Company, which measures music sales in Britain.
The 'Thriller' hitmaker has sold 3.8 million albums in Britain since his untimely death at the age of 50, while internet-savvy fans have downloaded individual tracks four million times.
The figures take into account two albums released after Michael's death - 2010's 'Michael', which peaked at number four, and the recently released 'Xscape', which marks the icon's 10th number one album in the UK.
Meanwhile, 'Man in the Mirror' has been named the star's best-selling track as it has been downloaded 413,000 times since Michael's death.
The track, co-written by Michael, Glen Ballard and Siedah Garrett, was originally released in 1988 and is lifted from the album 'Bad'.
The seminal classic 'Thriller' is the second most downloaded song of the last five years, totalling 244,000 digital downloads. 'Billie Jean' came third with 224,000 downloads.
The top five is rounded out by 'Smooth Criminal' (188,000 downloads) and 'Beat It' (171,000 downloads).
Michael Jackson's 10 most downloaded songs since his death:
1. 'Man in the Mirror' (1988)
2. 'Thriller' (1982)
3. 'Billie Jean' (1983)
4. 'Smooth Criminal' (1988)
5. 'Beat It' (1983)
6. 'Hold My Hand' featuring Akon (2010)
7. 'Love Never Felt So Good' featuring Justin Timberlake (2014)
8. 'Dirty Diana' (1988)
9. 'The Way You Make Me Feel' (1987)
10. 'Black or White' (1991)

Well then, if Michael has shifted 3.8 million albums in the UK since his death, hasn't that had any effect on his placings amongst the biggest selling albums list? He hasn't really moved at all on that list for a long time now? When you consider that it's the likes of 100,000 copies that separate albums on that list, surely MJ should have risen?

^ I think they have altered the numbers because pre 09, i'm sure bad had outsold thriller but now thriller is the bigger seller. I think the fact that mj hasn't moved up the top selling album list could be because out of the 3.8m albums sold it looks from chart positions that the bulk of sales were spread around the compilation albums - essential mj, number 1s, kop, which weren't on the biggest selling album list.

You're right, they did alter things extensively at one point in...mid noughties? Still, as of February only 100,000 copies separated Oasis' What's The Story (Morning Glory) and Adele's 21 - sure that doesn't mean that only 100,000 copies separate Thriller and Oasis, but I'd put good money to say that at LEAST 100k of that 3.8 million was Thriller.

^ I'd love to imagine that the compiler of the uk occ is deliberately keeping back millions of copies of mj's albums from the alltime top album chart, but i do believe that the alltime charts are kept pretty up to date, probably monthly. I googled and found some charts stats from 2006 and they had bad and thriller at 3.5m each. In 2012 when they had alot of news reports of adele zooming up the alltime charts, these reports had thriller at 4.25m and bad at 3.96m. The extra 1.25m wd account for the 25 june 09 effect when you bear in mind most sales of the posthumous 3.9m went to compilation albums. Oasis in 2012 is 4.55m so there's a bit of a gap.

I'm not suggesting a conspiracy. I'm just surprised that despite this spike, and a perceived stronger longevity in sales than some of those other albums, that Michael's placings on that chart have changed very little over the years - aside from that sudden shuffle that was made years back that put Thriller ABOVE Bad and moved both down a few places.

What's The Story is STILL selling as strongly as Thriller if not more strongly is one inference that can be made. It's surprising if that's the case.

Later in 2012 adele moved above thriller so now thriller is no 6, bad still at no 9. So there has been upward movement for mj in the past few years in sales and placings, even though there's been a newcomer in adele, both mj's albums have overtaken queen gh II, and thriller has also overtaken dire straits and pink floyd.

Unbelievable! Love Never Felt So Good is ahead of Dirty Diana, The Way You Make Me Feel and Black or White.

Fairplay Bonnie Blue, this is the first time I've seen that 2006 chart.

Astonishing really when you consider that Bad was once third on that chart AND the biggest selling album in the UK by an international artist.

Do you have a source on the 2006 chart? I'm curious as to why they went from giving exact sales figures to rounding to the nearest thousand if they are both OCC...

Well poor old madonna is out of the top 10 now, things change i guess. But mj still has 2 in the top 10, only queen have 2 entries, so pretty impressive.

This all time chart seems to have been done with vh1, so maybe it was a oneoff.
