New film by Darko Lungulov
Story about monument to Michael Jackson
18. 05. 2010. - 00:02h
Serbian movie director Darko Lungulov (known for a very successful film ‘Here And There’) has recently finished scenario for the new film ‘Monument To Michael Jackson’. The leading roles should be played by Branislav Trifunovic and Boris Milivojevic.
‘I began writing scenario in January of 2009 and was finishing it in June when the famous pop singer died all of a sudden. I had to interrupt writing and decide what to do next since his death somehow influenced the course of the whole story. Something had to be changed but at that moment I was not sure what direction to take. After several months I began writing again. This time I introduced Jackson’s death in the movie story and I am satisfied how everything turned out’, Lungulov says.
The story is inspired by monuments made to various celebrities in small towns in Serbia.
‘It seems to methat it is not done by accident. The wish for heroes is ever present. Heroes are important for the people. At these times new heroes have not been defined yet and the old ones from the time of socialism are no longer ‘politically acceptable’. Thus the new heroes are found in ‘non-political’ celebrities of Hollywood’, Lungulov adds. He wants to tell a story about need for heroes and also about search for identity.
‘After the wars, change of states, flags and national anthems, I think that people are confused and out of balance. It is interesting that in spite of permanent reference to national identity we are going through crisis of identity. We are searching for ourselves and our heroes. The film ‘A Monument To Michael Jackson’ is a comedy. In a small town in Serbia which is slowly disappearing, a man decides to save it by building a monument to Michael Jackson thus wanting to attract media attention and help it survive. Some are for, some are against…’, Lungulov revealed part of the movie story.
