never heard of her before. she's alright, doing her own thing and using various influences nicely. but looking her up it seems she's under Bad Boy :/

anyway, hope people will sees more of her.

It was better late than never for Prince.

The Purple One may have showed up at emerging singer Janelle Monáe's show last night at L.A.'s Viper Room, but he didn't arrive until an hour after she was done.

So instead of coming into the club, Prince held court in his car. Janelle joined him for a little chitchat in the backseat.

Slow down with your dirty assumptions. I've been assured it's completely platonic between the two...

Prince appears to have taken a shine to the young, funky, Atlanta-based singer and recently reached out to her to offer career advice, according to a source.

I'm told on Monday night a bunch of folks headed to Prince's house after Monáe's show with Raphael Saadiq at the Roxy. The little get-together also included one of Prince's signature living-room jam sessions.

Among those who were seen at Monáe's two club gigs this week were Sean "Diddy" Combs (he signed her to his Bad Boy Records), Eddie Murphy, and über-hitmaker Ne-Yo.

Monáe's been on a nonstop tour in support of her album, Metropolis: The Chase Suite (Special Edition).

she's a great performer. It seems like Diddy is letting her do her own thing and not pissing over her efforts like he does with every other artist on his label

Yeah, like he did with New Edition. They managed to get off of Bad Boy though.

shes signed with bad boy..uh oh..as much as i love diddy...ummm most of his artist go under...

The album was released back in 2007 on her indie label, but she's releasing it on Bad Boys for a mass release and with 2 bonus tracks. It's a suite like album. The EP is part one of 4

I downloaded that odd "space"-themed album because it was real cheap on iTunes. I didn't exactly get it.

You must have not listened to much Parliament-Funkadelic, early Genesis, Kraftwerk, 70s Herbie Hancock, 80s electrofunk bands like Midnight Star, Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, Frank Zappa, Rush, or psychedelic era Beatles, lol.

That couldn't be further from the truth. I just didn't get the same vibe. The lyrics are there, but the music doesn't mesh for me.

I love Herbie Hancock...the way he did the hip-hop thing and blended it with the jazz... I just didn't get the same kind of feel for this album as I did many of the artists you mentioned.

Her music is cool. "Lettin' Go" sounds like it could be an outtake from Thriller, and in "Sincerely Jane," she sounds a lot like Shirley Bassey. Overall though (regarding her shows, image, and attitude) I'm not a fan, but I respect what she's trying to do musically.
