Anaheim, CA – On February 26, the magic of Michael Jackson’s legendary Neverland will be revived in order to benefit a group of underprivileged children from the inner city whom Jackson would likely have helped if he were still alive.

On Saturday, Disneyland will be known as “Neverland” to a group of 30 kids from the Boys & Girls Club of East Los Angeles who have never been to the theme park and had no hopes of going, until now.

“This is one of the groups that Michael Jackson supported. He would have brought these deserving kids to his amusement park at Neverland if he were here,” said artist David Ilan, whose Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait is one of the sponsors of the charitable event thanks to a donation from an anonymous donor.

The event is being organized by Emmy nominated Executive Producer Jerry Biederman, who is the co-founder with Ilan of the largest tribute in the world to Michael Jackson, and Anna Araujo, Chief Professional Officer of the Boys & Girls Club of East Los Angeles. It is co-sponsored and produced by Roseé Entertainment.

“Because Neverland is no longer,” said Biederman, “we are turning Disneyland into Michael’s Neverland, if only for a day.”

Neverland Ranch was Michael Jackson’s celebrated home in Santa Barbara County, California, from 1988 to 2005. Inspired by his love of Disneyland, and a desire to reinvent his lost childhood, Jackson built an impressive, world-renowned amusement park, zoo and theater on his sprawling property, which he shared with countless disadvantaged and ill children. Neverland opened its gates regularly to busloads of children from various charities to experience a day of wonderment and hope.

Upon their arrival, the young guests were greeted by Allan Scanlan, known as “Big Al.” While he was originally hired to take care of ride safety and maintenance, he soon became responsible for overseeing the grounds and numerous attractions, as well as hosting the celebrity guests and the many thousands of children. During his 15 years at Neverland, Michael Jackson developed a close personal friendship with Big Al.

Scanlan, who is a supporter of The Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait – along with celebrity participants such as Diana Ross, George Lopez, Larry King, Gladys Knight, Adam Lambert and members of the Jackson family – will be greeting the children at the entrance to Disneyland, just as he used to welcome kids at the gates of Neverland.

“The Amusement Park, along with the rest of Neverland, was built to bring a magical day; a joy filled memory into the lives of all those sick and less fortunate kids who visited Neverland,” Scanlan said. “The impact that a day at Neverland had on the inner city children and the children who were dealing with life threatening illness was beyond belief. To represent Mr. Jackson and to help make his dream come true for those children, to be
part of that magical day and the memory those children will hang onto was a blessing.”

In 2006, Neverland was closed. A spokesperson stated Jackson had chosen not to live there ever since the previous year’s legal turmoil, of which Jackson was found not guilty, and the legal circus in the county that ensued.

“I am sorry to say that even with all the pictures and movies of the ranch, there is no way a person can describe what a day at Neverland was like,” Scanlan said. “It is something that has to be experienced.”

Big Al Scanlan holds onto hope that one day Neverland will be reopened as a place of pilgrimage for Jackson’s millions of fans, similar to how Graceland had become a destination for fans of Elvis Presley. He would want it to be a tourist attraction only if the property were shared with children’s charities, as Jackson had done in its glory days.

But for now, Neverland will be transported to Disneyland, if only in spirit.

This makes me want to cry all over again....Michael was such a good person. He didn't deserve the crap he got....and now he's gone...we just didn't know how lucky we were to have him while he was alive...at least I didn't know how lucky I was...

what a beautiful story..we sure were so truly blessed to have Michael...his soul was beautiful.

Wow, that story touched me in ways I never imagined anything could. It's truly bittersweet. The sweet part is that these children will get to partake in part of the magic that was Michael's Neverland, like the article said, the one place where he sought to re-build his lost childhood, so in a way, it was like a symbol of everything he longed for in life. Then, its desecration...is the bitterest part. The symbolic rape of the place, it was too horrific for words, and I am surprised he retained the degree of sanity he was able to hold, after all the madness he had to go through. I know for a fact I would have gone off the deep end...

It's a shame that things turned out the way they did, all beautiful things in this world are ruined by such things as greed and the desire for easy money...to think those people are still alive, still breathing, while he's... Well, I suppose nothing else was to be expected. Nothing of true beauty is meant to last in this mad world of ours...just look at all the pain he was always in, for trying to just live, for trying to make this world a better place. A quote which will always remind me of him is actually from Emilie Autumn's new book, but oh how very much it applies to Michael.

"You are a terribly real thing in a terribly false world, and that, I believe, is why you are in so much pain." ~From The Asylum For Wayward Victorian Girls by Emilie Autumn

It is true, those who actually attempt to surpass this world and all its faults ultimately end up being in nothing but pain--why is that? Yet, even though he was always suffering, he never gave up, never became jaded, never stopped trying to help those who were in need of his help, and that is where the strength of his character can be measured. He truly was and is an inspiration to all of us who proudly call ourselves his fans.

Returning to the topic of the OP, I'm glad these children will get to live that magic, if only for a day. I am sure he would have wanted that more than anything else.

What an uplifting story. It is good to see someone from Neverland relate the true spirit of the place and I like the way he talks about the experience of Neverland. I wish I was able to visit Neverland.

that is truly beautiful. definetly makes me wanna cry again. its so wonderful to see that people are still trying to keep Michael's memory alive and doing the things that he deadicated his life doing. Michael is surely looking down and smiling so big right now after hearing this. i hope that these kids will know how wonderful michael is and just how lucky we all were to have him.

This is simply beautiful! An absolute honor for Michael! Can you imagine what he would say to having his home being recreated (in spirit more or less) in Disneyland!?!?! He'd flip his lid in happiness I bet! A place he cherished so much for happiness and creativity is honoring HIS home of happiness and creativity!

Michael would love this, I find joy in thinking that somewhere, in some other realm Michael is saying "Can you believe it? They're transforming Disneyland into my home, something I built, all in the name and spirit of me! *giggles*".

crap. i miss him so much today

it is a very nice idea:)Michael would have loved that!making kids smile!

oh my God..what a beautiful story... I really can't even describe how I'm feeling after reading that..

Mchael's Neverland, Disneyland & a children's group that Mike supported before, through the MJTP because of an anonymous donation...how cool is that?!?!

I think Michael would be THRILLED :D

Who knows, his estate could very well be the anonymous donor.

This he would certainly approve. It's a wonderful thing to be doing for children, now that he's not here to do it. .. To think how the 2003 devil ruined this forever.... wow.

*runs away*

This makes me so sad. Big Al never once sold Michael out for money and all he has is good things to say about Michael. Beautiful story

What a beautiful story
I would like it would come to life more than one day,but it´s nice with at least one day

'Neverland is no longer' that's so sad......
I like the idea of this charity, though...

I believe one day Michael's Neverland Valley Ranch will be opened to the public again for just such events as written about in this article. Thanks for sharing. :flowers:
