Details of an upcoming solo album by iconic singer-songwriter Neil Young have been emerging for several months, through sources including Young's former bandmate David Crosby and producer Daniel Lanois. On August 20, Young revealed via Facebook that the solo album will be called Le Noise and is due out in September.

Le Noise, said Young, will be available on vinyl, CD, and iTunes beginning September 28. A Blu-ray version will follow, along with an application for iPhone and iPad.
"The app will be free," explained Young on Facebook. "It gives you an interactive album cover. Forgive my use of the word 'album'. I am old school. When you buy the songs/movies from I- tunes they show up in your APP."
In July, producer Daniel Lanois revealed a few details of the album to music publication Rolling Stone. "We cut a couple of solo acoustic songs, but the rest is very electric," Lanois said. "There's no band, but I got in there with my sonics. There's nothing else out there like it."
Young reportedly previewed eight of the album's tracks, including "You Never Call" and "Hitchhiker," during his recent Twisted Road tour.
A two-time Rock and Rock Hall of Fame inductee, Neil Young co-founded the 1960s band Buffalo Springfield, performed with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and went on to launch a solo career that has seen the release of 33 studio albums over more than 40 years. Le Noise will be the follow-up to Young's 2009 album Fork in the Road, the title song of which earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance.
