Thank you Bonnie.. I agree. There was nothing very new in the interview.
I noted down the gist of it (ie not every word, but a few quotes here and there). Here are my notes:
The first part of the interview was with Tito and Jackie together. They were asked why it has been so long since they (toured) together...since 1982. Tito replied that they were all doing different projects, and it was nice to have had a break. Jackie agreed and added 'yes, to raise our children'. Tito added '..and a chance to find out who we are as individuals'.
They were asked if they liked Britain and they (of course) replied Yes.
They are asked about what they are wearing for the concerts...answer 'sparkly and shiny'. Jackie said 'The hardest thing to do was to pick the song list (for a 90 minute slot)...we could go for 24 hours. We picked the songs the fans want to hear'. ( sounds familiar!)
Interviewer 'Do you remember all the words' Jackie replied 'Sometimes I forget, so I hold the microphone out to the audience.' (audience laughter)
Asked about remembering the complex dance routines, Tito replies ' You don't lose it, it's like riding a bike'.
Interviewer' How difficult wass it to cope with fame at such a young age? Jackie replied: Lots of people thought we were forced into the business. There were lots of talent shows in Indiana, and from High School, our father said if you want to be good, you have to practice'. Tito added' Motown took us to a whole different level, and spread the J5 all over the world'.
Jackie says ' its a great tour, we are very excited to be back here'.
Jermaine and Marlon joined them in the interview after an ad break.
Jermaine started by talking about how Michael would have wanted them to carry on, and performing the music was cathartic.
The interviewer asked if Michael put unnecesary pressure on himself. Jermaine replied that 'the story changes (like chinese whispers...interviewer agrees) They had a loving upbringing which starts at home...mother and father giving them love and things to do . 'We know who we are as people, we respect our parents and each other. Michael was just like us'.
Marlon: 'We had some good times on tour'.
He went on to tell the story about the Royal Command performance they did , and how Michael noticed a hole in the dressing room wall, through which he was able to see Carol Channing.
Marlon went on to tell the story about Jermaine inviting a girl back to his room, (on another occasion) and Michael and Marlon were hiding under the bed, until the girl mentioned that 'she could feel another hand on her leg'.
Interviewer: If there is one thing Michael taught you, what is it?' Answer: 'Never settle for less than the best. We give 100% all the time.'
Interviewer: 'Do you find it difficult to hear Michael's music? ' Jermaine: 'J5 was the beginning of all of this, and gave Michael the power to do what he did. ' Then he says something like ' We listen to his music, and feel we need to get on the stage'. Then the interview continues on as above, in my first post in this thread^^ ('Meeting him was meeting us', etc).
