Need help from those who have Space Channel 5: Part 2!!!

OK, I want to get the Space Michael suit, which involves being absolutely perfect in the level where you rescue him. I'm up to the final segment, which is REALLY complicated to do. There's an auto-mode which allows the computer to play through the game perfectly for you, but I don't know if that voids the ability to get the in-game costume. Can someone help me by going through a stage using Auto-Mode and see if they get a costume?

EDIT: never mind, I frustratingly found out the answer myself...
