Dear MJJCFam:
We never wanted to do this, but unfortunately the time has come and feel that the inevitable is upon us. MJJC is facing certain financial difficulties and we need your help. Since MJJC is funded entirely by your donations, we felt we owed it to you to be transparent with you how we run and just exactly what our difficulties are.
As just mentioned, MJJC is funded entirely by your donations. The server that MJJC runs on is a high powered server which also comes with a high price tag. Unfortunately there is no option to go with a "cheaper" server because with the amount of traffic that MJJC receives on a daily basis, a cheaper server would not be able to handle the large influx of traffic- as we have experienced in the past with the server slowing or going offline completely. The server MJJC is currently on costs £142/$241 per month, and is paid on a quarterly basis. Which means we pay in advance every three months. So every three months we owe the hosting company three times the £142/$241 (because that is a per month cost), which equals out to a total £426/$723.
As of right now, our next bill is due on September 9th. This will pay October, November and December. Then the same thing will happen December 9th... we will owe another £426/$723 to get us through January, February and March. And so on. At the present moment, we have received a few donations, but we are still short of our goal.
We do appreciate everything that every one of you does for MJJC. Without you and without your support, MJJC would not exist. But therein lies the problem. Over the last few months, we have noticed that support going down consideribly, and fewer and fewer donations are coming in. In the end, we have two options: MJJC will have to either start charging for certain services just to keep the site alive- which believe us, is the very last thing we want to do- or MJJC will have to shut down completely. That also, is the very last thing we want to have happen. Unfortunately this is the reality of our situation and we do not see any other options.
So please, we need your help. You don't have to donate a lot, even just $5 or $10 or $20 if you can spare it. And if it would help you, MJJC can post regular reminders on Facebook, Twitter and here in the forum as the due date for each bill gets closer so then that way we don't ever have to run into this predicament ever again.
