Total of 1 million albums sold in the US this week and a drop of only 1% for Number 1s.
Look at the sales increases for BAD!!v:clapping:

PLUS, this is the 3rd week in a row that a catalogue album has outsold the best selling current album. Mike was the first person ever to do this and has kept doing it!

since MJ passed What are the total sales for albums and singles each of the 3 weeks in US?

any chart experts have that info?

Awesome! But i'd expect nothing less from the King :)

Who's giving all these positive threads 1 star btw? Some trolling idiot no doubt. Anyhow thx for posting this!

With thanks to MJDangerous on UKMIX:

I will try to make a summary of MJ sales since his death... I will try to make clear each figure, considering many "totals" announced on Billboard/Music Week and such are misleading (sometimes exclude tracks with his brothers, sometimes exclude his duets, or exclude records not charting).

US Sales
Albums
Wk 1 - 422,000
Wk 2 - 800,000

Those figures appear to concern Michael Jackson alone. Albums on top 22 catalog chart alone last week sold already 800,000, due to J5 compilations. Two Motown albums charted on catalog chart on each week but also on main album chart and others on R&B catalog chart. As a whole, estimates of his sales:

Wk 1 - 470,000 (29,000 from 2 albums on Cat Chart)
Wk 2 - 830,000 (14,000 from 2 albums on Cat Chart)

Singles
Wk 1 - 2,372,000
Wk 2 - 2,078,000

Again, figures related to Michael Jackson. Checking his sales of charted tracks alone:

Wk 1 - 2,171,000
Wk 2 - 1,858,000

Now, the rest of Jackson-related tracks charted but not counted.

Wk 1 - 355,000
Wk 2 - 260,000

J5/Jacksons catalog is very large, the previous figures are made of only 9 tracks.
Please note that Billboard stated 3,3m/2,9m worldwide in the first 2 weeks after his death adding US/Ca/EU/Oz counting tracks with his brothers, against 2,950m/2,674m without them, which equals to 350k/225k worldwide - they sold more in the US alone, with not even a dozen of tracks.

I would estimate those figures for their entire catalog:

Wk 1 - 580,000
Wk 2 - 450,000

So, in total, MJ downloads in the US those 2 weeks:

Wk 1 - 2,950,000
Wk 2 - 2,530,000

Music Videos now:

Wk 1 - 25,000
Wk 2 - 88,000

Ringtones, MJ alone/+J5 estimates

Wk 1 - 199,000 / 230,000
Wk 2 - 336,000 / 390,000

To resume, US sales in the first 2 weeks after his death:

Albums -- Singles -- Music Videos -- Ringtones
Wk 1 - 470,000 -- 2,950,000 -- 25,000 -- 230,000
Wk 2 - 830,000 -- 2,530,000 -- 88,000 -- 390,000

Totals:
Wk 1 - 3,675,000
Wk 2 - 3,838,000

Which means 7,5 million records sold in 10 days IN THE US

UK Sales
Week 1
Singles: 204,703
Albums: 109,082
DVDs: 7,896

Those are figures of charted stuff. It does not include albums charted on Budget album chart. Now, figures posted by Music Week for MJ stuff on his own:

Singles: 196,000
Albums: 124,000

All MJ albums charted were credited to him (both J5 compilations charted were "MJ & J5"). Since almost all MJ albums were charted, the gap between both figures (109k to 124k) should be due to sales on Budget album chart. We still have to add stuff of the Jackson 5/Jacksons.
Their charted singles cumulated 25,000 copies, as a whole I would estimate their sales that week at 44,000. For albums, they weren't stocked and missed to chart, I would go with 6,000 copies sold, MJ & J5 being already counted on MJ total. That means:

Singles: 240,000
Albums: 130,000
DVDs: 8,000

Week 2
Charted stuff:
Singles: 357,678
Albums: 234,347
DVDs: 38,570

Using the same proportions as on week 1, that means 390,000 singles sold adding uncharted tracks. Then there is the problem of albums, let say 245,000 once adding all non-charted albums, but the real issue is sales of albums charted on Budget album chart, Bad, Dangerous, Invincible and Blood On The Dancefloor. I will stick with proportion: Those sold 15k while albums charted on normal chart sold 109k, so with 234k on normal chart let assume 32k for albums on Budget chart. To resume:

Singles: 390,000
Albums: 277,000
DVDs: 39,000

Week 3
Charted:
Singles: 265,101
Albums: 315,744
DVDs: 75,337

Using always the same methods, I will go with 295,000 singles sold, for albums on budget chart 43k, with uncharted albums, total of 370,000.

Singles: 295,000
Albums: 370,000
DVDs: 76,000

So, in UK in 16 days, we have the following sales:

Singles: 925,000
Albums: 777,000
DVDs: 123,000

Australian Sales
Week 1, charted records:

Singles: 107,821
Albums: 62,015

Week 2, charted records:

Singles: 80,319
Albums: 88,650
DVDs: 35,662

With uncharted records, estimated totals for both weeks together:

Singles: 220,000
Albums: 160,000
DVDs: 60,000

Sales of 440,000 records in 2 weeks.

French Sales
A few data only. Billie Jean and Thriller sold 20,000 copies together in the first 2 days of sales, they were his 2 best sellers but his entire catalog was pretty solid, a bit like in the US. In that country, the top 2 sold 11% of the total of Jackson catalog, I will go with a share of 13% in France to be conservative, the result is 150,000 singles sold in the first 2 days, an outstanding result for French market. His albums were out of stock, still he got to 1 and 2 on comprehensive chart with 10k sold each, all his albums cumulated around 40,000 sales looking at charts rankings. That is without digital album sales which are excluded, Thriller alone sold 5k there and Jackson owned almost all top 10. I will go with the following figures:

Singles: 150,000
Albums: 60,000

The second week was already complete and he charted on 5 of the 6 first positions on comprehensive album chart, his singles climbed on digital rankings as well. The Collection sold 10k+ at 6, King Of Pop more, The Essential should have sold already over 20k, Number Ones again more while I estimate Thriller at 40k sold (looking at increases on charts of his other studio albums, they multiplied their sales by around 4). I assume the following estimates:

Singles: 180,000
Albums: 160,000 (140k physical, 20k digital)

Still missing DVDs which are huge in France, I will go with 60,000 for both weeks together.

To resume:

Singles: 330,000
Albums: 220,000
DVDs: 60,000

Total of 610,000 records sold in France

Netherland Sales
I have sheets to calculate their sales and we got his single sales in week 1: 11,000 copies sold, which is massive for such a low market. Calculations give the following results for week 1:

Singles: 12,000 (with uncharted tracks)
Albums: 25,000

Week 2:

Singles: 13,000
Albums: 60,000

So, in total:

Singles: 25,000
Albums: 85,000
*DVDs: 25,000

Catalog DVDs aren't allowed to chart so only the unofficial "One Night In Japan" is charted, ranking at 1, I guess others are selling massively.

Canadian Sales
Looking at % from the US market and his positions, in 2 weeks, vague estimates:

Singles: 130,000
Albums: 80,000
DVDs: 10,000

German Sales
We only know that over 100,000 tracks were sold on first 2 days alone, and his incredible domination of the album chart (8 albums top 9). I would say in 2 weeks:

Singles: 350,000
Albums: 300,000
DVDs: 50,000

Totals US+UK+GE+FR+Oz+NE

Singles: 7,460,000
Albums: 2,840,000
DVDs: 440,000

Worldwide, I would say:
Singles: 9-10 million
Albums: 3,5-4 million
DVDs: 0,5 million

With 3rd week figure this tally will increase dramatically again.

About the Bad album, is it the original Bad album? I thought they stopped producing that album (why on earth would they do that?).

Because online I can only find Bad special edit album, when I want the original Bad album.

Billboard: “The shift from digital to physical MJ album purchases continues to grow each week; most likely due to the availabitlity of physical product in the marketplace.”

Fans Snap Up 1.1 Million Michael Jackson Albums In One Week
July 14, 2009 - Rock and Pop

By Keith Caulfield, L.A.

The King of Pop dominates the Nielsen SoundScan and Billboard charts yet again.

Based on preliminary sales numbers from Nielsen SoundScan, Michael Jackson's catalog of solo albums sold a mighty 1.1 million copies in the U.S. in the tracking week that ended at the close of business on Sunday (July 12).

That's a jump of 37% stacked next to the previous week, when his combined albums sold just shy of 800,000. In just the past two and a half weeks, American consumers have purchased more than 2.3 million Jackson albums.

Record label sources have suggested that sales of Jackson's albums were particularly strong last week because of publicity surrounding his memorial service on Tuesday July 7. Additionally, a wider selection of his albums were re-stocked by key retailers, in addition to key hits compilations like "Number Ones" and "The Essential Michael Jackson" and of course, "Thriller."

When Nielsen SoundScan's charts are released in the morning on Wednesday, July 15, Jackson's "Number Ones" collection will be the top selling album in the United States for the third week in a row, with 349,000 copies sold (an increase of 3%).

His "Thriller" moved 264,000 (up 41%) while "Essential" powered through another 149,000 (up 18%). Some older Jackson titles also saw great gains, likely owed to the one-two punch of re-stocking by brick-and-mortar retailers and the publicity generated by the memorial service.

"Off the Wall" sold 107,000 (up 108%), "Bad" did 97,000 (up 332%) and "Dangerous" blew through 67,000 (up 157%).

In turn, Jackson is still the King of the Top Pop Catalog Albums chart. It tallies albums that are more than 18 months old, have fallen below No. 100 on the Billboard 200 and don't have a current radio single. Catalog albums are ineligible to appear on the Billboard 200 chart though they can chart on the Top Comprehensive Albums chart.

This week, the entire top 12 albums are all Jackson-related. The singer specifically has the titles at Nos. 1-6 and 9-12, while two Jackson 5 compilations hold down the fort at Nos. 7 and 8.

Billboard Comprehensive Albums

1.Michael Jackson:Number Ones
2.Michael Jackson:Thriller
5.Michael Jackson:The Essential Michael Jackson
11.Michael Jackson:eek:ff the Wall
21.Michael Jackson:Dangerous
25.Michael Jackson:Bad

56.Michael Jackson:The Ultimate Collection
64.Michael Jackson:Invincible

So in death, Michael is still breaking records and will most certainly make the Guinness Book yet again.

perez hilton is reporting that MJ is the biggest selling artist of the year and it's only july! then again, all he had to beat was taylor swift...no offence but she's shockingly bad.

WOW !!!!
I have that record breaker song stuck in my head from that old record breakers show here in the uk after seeing all the records michaels breaking (hope he is watching the chart from heaven!)

Michael better get credit for this at the future music awards

wouldn't it be awesome if had "THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR?" award? :) I'm sure he will with his new one too.
