Michael Jackson was lined up for Ricoh Arena

Aug 21 2009 EXCLUSIVE by Jenny Waddington

KING of pop Michael Jackson was being lined up to perform a spectacular concert in Coventry next summer, the Telegraph can reveal.
Secret talks were underway to bring the singer to the Ricoh Arena in what would have been the biggest gig ever seen in the Midlands, and one of the biggest in the country.
The Coventry Telegraph has learned that J***o would have taken to the stage at the Ricoh in June or July 2010.
Bosses at the stadium had been approached by Jackson’s concert organisers to say that he was interested in bringing his spectacular show to Coventry.
But before the announcement could be made public, the singer died on June 25 at his Holmby Hills home in Los Angeles. His death left millions of fans in mourning across the world.
Jackson was due to perform 10 gigs at London’s O2 Arena last month.
And Ricoh chief executive Daniel Gidney said: “We were told in April that Michael Jackson would be coming to Coventry.
“It was in the very early stages of organising, so we didn’t have any firm dates, we just knew it would be in the summer next year.
“We were very excited about the concert. It would have been a fantastic event.”

Such a shame, Ricoh would have been a great venue, perfect size as not as big as Wembley Stadium but a perfect size for an open air gig :>(

Um..?

Guys there were also reports that he was doing a show with his brothers and sisters in Texas next summer. You know what the whole dumb AllGood Entertainment lawsuit was about ...?

Yeah  I couldn't have gone to London so this would have been perfect...
ah never would have believed mj in coventry i dreamed bout that for years...had tickets to london thou

Hmm it's quite unusual to imagine Mike performing in Coventry.

I would have so gone though as it's not far from London anyway and have family there too.

I know you're right, all these new plans emerging/events makes it even sadder, if possible.

:( no words.. I miss him so much, I can't imagine how brilliant our lives would be right now..

He really was going to make a HUGE comeback to the scene.

SO sad that never happend. :(

I am just few miles away from Coventry :-( I can't believe all this ended in such way...

This excites me, i always told michael to come to bham or near birmingham as i am a brummy and he was actually planning on being near by, bless him, god i loved that man:cheers:

makes no sense...after the 50 shows in London he was suppose to go to Europe and then Asia or US, why in the hell would he go back to the UK?
and they call him "*****" in the article - it shows the amount of respect they have for him
people do nothing but exploit his name I'm sick of it

nothing was ever agreed interms of what he was gonna do afterwards. AEG had a plan but nothing more. bizarre article.i take it with a pinch of salt

because any male in the uk with that surname gets called that name. its nothing to do with respect

yes nothing was official yet but this was suppose to be a world tour not a UK tour, 50 London shows was already too much for the UK anyway

ricoh has actually hosted quite a few big concerts, i don't see why it couldn't have happened. but to do more hows in the uk after the 50 already done, does seem a lil odd.

i had tickets to london but i also live in coventry how amazing would this have been :(
