Michael Jackson was lined up for Ricoh Arena
Aug 21 2009 EXCLUSIVE by Jenny Waddington
KING of pop Michael Jackson was being lined up to perform a spectacular concert in Coventry next summer, the Telegraph can reveal.
Secret talks were underway to bring the singer to the Ricoh Arena in what would have been the biggest gig ever seen in the Midlands, and one of the biggest in the country.
The Coventry Telegraph has learned that J***o would have taken to the stage at the Ricoh in June or July 2010.
Bosses at the stadium had been approached by Jackson’s concert organisers to say that he was interested in bringing his spectacular show to Coventry.
But before the announcement could be made public, the singer died on June 25 at his Holmby Hills home in Los Angeles. His death left millions of fans in mourning across the world.
Jackson was due to perform 10 gigs at London’s O2 Arena last month.
And Ricoh chief executive Daniel Gidney said: “We were told in April that Michael Jackson would be coming to Coventry.
“It was in the very early stages of organising, so we didn’t have any firm dates, we just knew it would be in the summer next year.
“We were very excited about the concert. It would have been a fantastic event.”
