Michael Jackson's Kids Talk About Him 'All The Time'

Even in death, Michael Jackson is still a major presence in his children's lives.

"They are around their father 24 hours a day," Michael's brother, Jackie Jackson, told PEOPLE recently. "They have pictures in the bedroom. They talk about him all the time. They ask me stories about him. They want to know more about him."

The pop star's three kids – Prince, Paris and Prince Michael, aka Blanket – are "doing really well," Jackie said, adding that they are interested in getting into the entertainment business. Prince wants to be a director, while Paris wants to be an actress.

"I told the kids, 'You better get busy because when we were your age we were selling out concerts,' " Jackie joked, referring to the famed Jackson 5 era.

The children have embraced that era of their father's life, with Prince even donning a Jackson 5 shirt to a recent Los Angeles Lakers game he attended with Jackie. The black shirt is a part of the J5 collection that Jackson’s brothers launched.

"We had thousands of photos that had never really been seen and we wanted to make use of them," Jackie said at the MAGIC fashion convention in Las Vegas.

The clothing line, in its second season, uses images of the famed band and puts them on t-shirts, tank tops and jackets. Michael's children especially love the shirts, said Jackie.

"They like to see us as little kids," he said. "We were the same age they are and we were doing our thing."

Nice story. Typical children wanting to know more about their dad when he was their age. I was like that too. Michael knew the interests of his children so I am sure he spoke to them about it. It is good to see they have a good relationship with Jackie. Jackie has a soft voice like Michael. I wonder if they find similarities between him and their dad?

I wonder if that was true. It seems strange, since Prince was the eldest and was always the one who had long conversations with Michael. I know Janet said that they did not talk about him but would say things like "Daddy has one like that or daddy said." However, maybe the kids open up to various family members differently.

I find this so sad for some reason, especially the part where it says they wanna know more about him.. Always good to read about how well the children are doing. In times of grief, it's always important to be reminded of the object lost, and they are all grieving, each in their own way. How can they not? Even our least favourite members of the Jackson family, like Joe, somewhere deep (and I mean deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep) down inside, surely, they must feel something? I don't really know any of them, so I wouldn't be the person to ask, but just knowing how much Michael affected everyone's life, and his family's, there must be some grief. At least the children aren't alone in their grief--unity is always important during these hard times. It's good to see Jackie stepping up and helping them.

With that being said, perhaps mentioning the shirts wasn't the best idea, if they're the ones selling them. It does seem a bit tacky, in that regard. Still, I can't see Jackie using the children to sell shirts, I think it must have come out the wrong way. Am I being too naive?

I agree. Jackie is one of the more sane brothers, I'm sure mentioning the shirts was not a smart idea. The day Jackie tweeted that he was going to see the Lakers game, he didn't mention Prince at all...

J5collection is his company. Either him or his team did it.

I can't tell without a doubt if it was him personally...but I know he has promoted his j5 (both the clothes & the twitter) before.

But logically, knowing how sensitive using such a high profile kid to sell clothes might look to the public, wouldn't his team consult the owner of the company (and the kid's uncle) before sending out these tweets?

I still think Jackie & Tito are the only sane guys left in that family...but this doesn't surprise me one bit. People tend to do tacky or desperate things when $$$ is involved. I thought it was tacky when j5 tweeted about Prince & the j5 shirt.

But reading Jackie BRINGING it up in an unrelated interview a FULL MONTH LATER, makes me think, he either sent out the tweets himself (from his company j5 collection account) or he authorized them.

This bit of news is joyful in a way, being in a Jackson 5 mood lately, and envisioning his children getting to know Michael's early years. .. The entertainment industry, though... every time I see it being mentioned, no matter which context, it makes me sick.... Hopefully, the children will always be safe, wanna be idealistic as far as they're concerned.

I'll choose to trust Jackie until seriously being proven otherwise, he's probably the only one in the family (aside of the children) with pure, best intentions at heart and I pray this doesn't change. Won't try to harp on everything, you'd really lose your mind if continuing to be negative about virtually everything, esp. Jackson-related.

I agree. I do think Jackie has the children's best interest at heart and I'm glad he talks to them about Michael as I'm sure he will only having loving things to say. I'm not surprised to hear that the children are interested in stories about Michael as a teenager, I always love hearing stories about my parents from when they were my age too

I remember reading one time/or hearing from Jackie himself, I believe, that he used to change Michael's diapers. .. He is a loving, sensitive person.. I can't forget him bending in pain on stage at the memorial, covering his face while tearing up.. And his genuine warmth.. Um, well of course. He's their dad.

I hope the family can tell them as much as those children want and more about their father. It's just not fair to them that they cannot grow up with him and hear these stories from their dad himself. It's just truly so sad. They had the gift of being the children of a wonderful, beautiful man and that was taken away from them too soon. But these stories are what will keep him alive in their hearts. They deserve to know everything about their dad. I can't imagine how curious they must be or how hard this is for them. So sad. But if they are anything like Michael, they will remain strong. They will know that they carry every aspect about their father in them and that he will never truly be gone if they keep his memory alive. I also hope that they truly know how much Michael loved them and that he never will stop loving them.

The more I think about it, the more upsetting it is to me. It's really not fair. I wish those kids all the luck. My fear is them having to deal with the media garbage about their dad once they are old enough. They shouldn't have to.
