Monaco's playboy prince to wed
Prince Albert II of Monaco, one of Europe's most eligible bachelors, has announced his engagement to South African Olympic swimmer and model Charlene Wittstock.
"The prince's palace announced on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, the engagement of his Royal Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco with Mademoiselle Charlene Wittstock," the prince's office said in a statement.
No date for the wedding was given.
Prince Albert, 52, is the son of the late Hollywood actress Grace Kelly and Prince Rainer III.
Over the years he had been linked to a string of beautiful women and acknowledged fathering two illegitimate children. But he sought to shed his playboy image after succeeding his father in 2005 and has been dating Wittstock for several years.
The 32-year-old champion swimmer is 20 years the prince's junior
Wittstock competed in the Sydney Olympics and is a Commonwealth 100-metre backstroke champion.

The prince also has two children out of wedlock. With Nicole Coste, a former Air France flight attendant from Togo, he fathered Alexandre Éric Stéphane Coste.
With Tamara Rotolo, a California woman, he fathered Jazmin Grace Grimaldi.
Prince Albert is the son of Hollywood screen legend Grace Kelly.
