Michael Jackson the songwriter question

The one thing i would really like to know is that when Mike wrote a song did he ever play any instruments to compose the music or did he always just sing the music to his studio musicians and then they would play what he sang?

I don't think he played that many instruments..I think he could play piano, guitar, but not sure if he was amazing at it...I think he just hummed/beatboxed the melody or whatever, and then the musicians would play it...

I do remember hearing that Bill Botrell said that he could play piano but not at a pro level
