According to Wiki, Echo (trademarked ECHO in capitals) is a German music award granted every year by the Deutsche Phono-Akademie (an association of recording companies). Each year's winner is determined by the previous year's sales. The Echo Deutscher Musikpreis is the successor to the Deutscher Schallplattenpreis (German Record Awards).

The show was held yesterday and I watched it, but the awarding of the category "Artist International Rock/Pop" wasn't aired.

But later it was intimated that Phil Collins won this award, not Michael. But it doesn't matter, IMO Phil Collins is a good recording artist too, and Michael is in the Hall Of Fame of this award show anyway.
