Jackson's Doctor Denies Giving Dangerous Drugs

Doctor Says He Limited Drugs

ANTHONY McCARTNEY, AP Entertainment Writer

LOS ANGELES -- Michael Jackson's dermatologist said he had sedated the pop star in the past for painful medical procedures but had never given him dangerous sedatives like Propofol to use.

"I was not one of the doctors who participated in giving him overdoses of drugs or too much of anything," Dr. Arnold Klein said in an interview that aired Wednesday on ABC's "Good Morning America." ''In fact, I was the one who limited everything, who stopped everything."

Investigators looking into the cause of Jackson's death have homed in on drugs that were administered to the insomniac musician. The powerful sedative Diprivan, also known as Propofol and usually administered by anesthesiologists in hospitals, was found in Jackson's home, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the person wasn't authorized to comment about the matter.

Any drugs he used with Jackson were on very mild levels, Klein said. "How am I going to prescribe Diprivan when I don't know how to use it?" he said.

Klein said he saw Jackson three days before he died on June 25. In response to rumors that the musician was dangerously thin at the time of his death, Klein said he saw nothing to make him worry.

"He danced in my office," he said. "He danced for my patients."

Klein also said that Jackson was "at the hands of plastic surgeons who didn't know when to stop" and that the singer viewed his face as a piece of art.

Still, Klein said he was always concerned about Jackson because he knew that whatever he wanted, he could always find someone to give it to him.

The saga surrounding Jackson's death will continue past Tuesday's memorial service in Los Angeles, watched by millions around the world.

Klein also told Diane Sawyer that he was not the father of the children. But he prefaced it with, " as far as I know..." Now why would he do that? Why would he not say definitively that he was not the father? I doubt he was the father, but he should have been more clearer.

Where has it come from that this man may be the kids father and not MJ? This is news to me. Was he in a relationship with Debbie?

I just cant keep up, I've heard everything now.

tmz i think it was. or some other stupid site. funny how htey miss out klien saying mj had lupus. dont make him look to human

TMz, should've known they'd be the ones to conjure up something out of nothing. They've done nothing but disect every inch of Michaels life since that dreadful day, and because they broke the news makes them now suddenly credible...yeah right!

Maybe he made the mistake of using dry humor in exasperation. Being there it may have sounded totally different. Simple as that.

Maybe this shouldn't even be open for discussion. You know where this is going to lead. Lets not get sucked in.

Well mentioned. I was also about to say the same. These media people are in cahoots with each other to promote ignorance.

Because the moment they say lupus, people will question what it is and the skin-bleaching stories will collapse in a heap.

Also this article seems to misquote. Klein spoke only about the nose, they go on about his face as a piece of art.
If Klein was not the plastic surgeon, why does he comment?

He also violates patient confidentiality which i dislike with many of these doctors.

Michael had cosmetic for 3 reasons
The scalp because of the burn, to remove scars
The nose because of the bullying
And the chin, because of media trying to depict him as a girl, so he sought a musculine feature.

How is that seeing one's face as a piece of art?

To me, it seems when someone doesn't know something, they speculate with their ignorance. The problem they spout their ignorance in teh media which then belives them.

Now Quincy talked of chemical bleaching. Ah! Is that now not a contradiction with Dr Klein who speaks of Lupus that is linked with vitiligo?

As I say, spewing ignorance.

his comments when asked whether hwas the father of the kids was interestin

"to the best of my knowledge, i aint"

he talks likes that, either you refute it or you say you are....

very strange comment to make

Meanwhile, Dr. Murray remains unwilling to admit whether or not he gave Michael Propofol let alone what he did for the 30 minutes before calling 911, or for the two days following the incident before cooperating with police.

BY the way, concerning the parentage of MJ kids, i don't want to bring up the subject but since the doctor mentions it, i noticed something today.

Some have tried to look for facial features of MJ in the kids, whereas Debbies are easily noticeable.

I saw this today in a newspaper when i was flipping the page and realised how Prince looks like Michael

Do this, take a photo showing Prince in a newspaper looking in the crowd while on stage. Fold the page just after Prince's left eye.

Then open the page and turn it at an angle 90 degrees and you will notice the similarity between Michael and Prince. It's very striking!

The media runs with this story of parentage because they want to create scandal. Why are they struggling to name anyone and everyone as the parents?

Michael Jackson's Doctor Says He's Not the Father of Jackson's Kids

GMA Exclusive: Dermatologist Arnold Klein Said Jackson Considered His Face 'Work of Art'

The Beverly Hills dermatologist who was by Michael Jackson's side for years sparked a new round of questions after offering a vague denial of reports that he may have fathered the pop icon's two oldest children.

Arnie Klein: "To the best of my knowledge" I'm not the biological father.

"To the best of my knowledge, I am not the father of these children," Dr. Arnold Klein told ABC News' Diane Sawyer in a "Good Morning America" exclusive. "I can't answer it in any other way. I don't want to feed any of this insanity that is going around."

US Weekly reported in the days after Jackson's death that Klein, not Jackson, is the biological father of Prince Michael I, now 12, and Paris-Michael Katherine, 11, Jackson's children with ex-wife Debbie Rowe.

Rowe worked for Klein, and it was in Klein's office that Jackson met the woman who would become first a friend, then his wife, then the mother of his two oldest children.

Klein spoke briefly about them with "GMA," remembering one Christmas Eve he spent with Jackson at his home where he was charmed by the singer's "brilliant" children.

"The kids were so very happy and so beautiful," he said. "Every time they would pass their father they would say, 'I love you Daddy.'"

Klein also denied prescribing Jackson any of the powerful painkillers, including OxyContin and Demerol, that the singer was said to be addicted to. Klein also denied he was one of five Jackson doctors reportedly under investigation in connection with Jackson's death and said he has not even been contacted by Los Angeles police.

He accused the doctors who prescribed addictive drugs for the pop icon of being "criminals."

"I say that anyone who makes someone an addict or gives a person potentially dangerous substances directly to them to use, like propofol is a criminal," Klein told "GMA." "It becomes nothing more than a manslaughter, or something worse than that."

Propofol, known by the trade name Diprivan, was among the drugs removed from Jackson's rented mansion, according to ABC News sources.

Jackson, 50, died June 25 of apparent cardiac arrest.

Jackson was in Klein's office three days before he died and seemed to be in good spirits, contradicting a report by Jackson's nurse Cherilyn Lee who said the singer was in a horrific amount of pain.

"He was not in terrible pain when I saw him. He danced in the office, and he danced for my patients," Klein said. "He was very muscular, and he was very, very happy and dancing."

"I saw nothing at that point that would make me worry whatsoever," he continued. "But I was always concerned about him because I was always worried about other doctors."

Klein said Jackson, like many other rich and famous California patients, had no problem finding a doctor to get whatever he thought he needed.

"No matter what he wanted, someone would give it to him," Klein said. "The very rich and the very poor and the very famous all get the worst medical care."

Klein said that although Jackson did not confide to him a complete list of medications he was taking, he did have a talk about dangerous prescription drugs with the King of Pop many years ago.

In the days before OxyContin was available, Klein said Jackson requested an older painkiller that was more potent that even morphine.

"I said, 'You can't take that. It's poison. Throw that in the trash,'" Klein said. "And I got him to throw it in the toilet."

"But I can't be there every minute," he said. "I wish I could have been there every minute of the day."

Klein said he had sedated Jackson in the past but only with mild drugs during painful treatments.

"There was nothing wrong with the manner I treated Michael, because what I had to do is restructure for an individual who had lupus, who had terrible acne scarring his face," he said. "But I was not one of the doctors who participated in giving him overdoses of drugs or too much of anything. In fact, I was the one who limited everything, who stopped everything."

But someone apparently was giving Jackson something more powerful, something that could have ended the singer's life.

Toxicology reports were not due to be released for four to six weeks. The cause of Jackson's death on his death certificate was listed as "deferred."

Klein first met Jackson more than two decades ago and was not just his doctor, but a close friend.

But what he did want to do was set the record straight about some rumors that were very painful to Jackson over the years, including that he purposely lightened his skin so he no longer looked black.

Jackson Battled Lupus, Vitiligo, Rumors

Klein said it was he who diagnosed Jackson with lupus and saw growing evidence of vitiligo, both autoimmune diseases that affect the skin.

"It blew me away because here I'm diagnosing the most famous person in the world ? with a very serious ailment," he said.

As Jackson's skin started to be marked with "severe speckling," Klein said, something had to be done even out the tone.

"At the same time he was in the hands of plastic surgeons who didn't know when to stop," Klein said. "But he felt he was a piece of art, that his face was a piece of art."

Klein said he was stunned by the news of his friend's death, sitting in one spot for hours, saying he "went to almost instantaneous shock."

"I feel horrible for what happened because I really, really love this person, because he was the person who was the consummate entertainer, that could get up on a stage and sing. And once he began entertaining, he ... loved every single person in the audience."

This is all find and dandy, but I still hate how all these people re disclosing personal medical information regarding Michael. I guess they feel the truth needs to come out. But that Cheryl Lee woman bothers me. Why is she talking now?

I think it good that it coming out that he did suffer with Lupus and Vitiligo becuz i think it shown not just the general public but some of the fans also that going thought ALOT of pain....

NOW him being the "real" father is very Debatable....

Klein just wants some attention! that's the only reason a person would answer a question like that. He could have just put an end to it all and said Michael is the father period. But he wants to make the media rounds now that Michael has passed away and give out Michael's personal medical issues and give fools like Diane Demon and Nancy Disgrace more bull to talk about. And he calls himself a friend! he knows he would'nt dare be doing this if Michael was around. If he was a real friend like he says he was he would'nt be making statements and cooments like this a day after his friends funeral and causing more hurt to the children and family he left behind.

why are these people coming out and talking about MJ's medical history, releasing videos and photos of him and his kids?.....He may have died 12 days now but I could've sworn MJ was adamant about protecting his privacy.

Sometimes I really don't know. It would have been enough to say he is not the father (he definitely is not.lol), and he only treated MJ for Lupus and Vitiligo which required no powerful sedative. That's all.

But when he gets anecdotal about pain killers, then I start to wonder. Is he trying to clear his name because he may be losing customers? So he projects himself as the saviour of MJ? Does he want attention? Does he have MJ's best interest at heart?

Another pertinent question is what are the actual questions and answers of this interview? And was it edited? I want to know if he was prompted to say some things (that would make more sense to me).
