For those of you who can really remember MJ and JJ's career in the 1990's I have a question:

Did the media ever use Janet in ways that dissed MJ?

I ask this because I was just watching a clip of an interview JJ did in Australia in 1993 where she talks about MJ's Oprah interview, Her career, and Madonna. In the begining of the interview, the broadcaster goes something like "and now here is Janet Jackson, Michael's little sister who is very much a women in her own right...even though his career may be fading Janet Jackson has rocketed up to the top of the charts...blah, blah, blah."

Maybe that's why many MJ and JJ fans don't really get along.

I dunno but the family has kind of 'turned on' michael - esp. jermanine. because jermaine just wants $$$$ he has 'betrayed' michael so many times. I dunno about janet ; I would doubt it but who knows.

Just to be clear, I'm not asking about what "the family" themselves might have done...I'm asking if the MEDIA used one Jackson against the other per se. I've always heard that people considered Janet to be the "normal" Jackson during this period because of how the media portrayed the rest of her family.

Oohhh my bad!

yeah they did. the example u quoted is the sort of thing that was used all the time ontop of using her to insult mj on a personal level. ie shes the normal one etc.

i think its a myth about janet/mj fans not getting along. maybe different in the usa but in europe most of janets fan base is made up of mj fans anyway. they supported her cause she was his sis and got into her music via mj. like when i went to her concerts u would always see as many or more ppl with mj shirts on

The 'normal one' comment used by media types was always done to take a stab at Mike.

Yes, I remember that too. They did try to hype up Janet as the better/cooler Jackson - especially in the US.

Being a fan of both Mike and Janet equally, I have seen a fair share on both ends of journalists using the other to bring the other down. With Mike it was always, as babykinsilk05 stated, comparing Janet to Mike by labeling him a freak basically. On the opposite end, Janet is always compared to Mike from a career standpoint. Even though she 43 and a grown woman, she is still referred as Mike's little sis instead of being a superstar in her own right.

true but thats always gonna happen.

The media has not attacked Janet anywhere near as much as they did with Michael. Janet's only scandal was the super bowl thing and that was way blown out of proportion.

Yeah the media does it all the time calling Janet "the normal one" out of the Jackson clan. They were all pretty normal imo.
